Results of yesterday's myLot experiment are in!

Yesterday I posted one discussion where I stated I would only start only one discussion all day. I stuck to that by the way which wasn't easy as I always have ideas in my head!
I commented on discussions, replied to comments, etc. I don't literally keep track of how many minutes/hours I spend on myLot, but I have a good feel for the time and I would bet the farm I spent the same amount of time yesterday as I have every day for the past few months.
Take into consideration that I noticed I had may comments from people who had been 'missing' for a few days due to the holiday and were playing catch-up. That may have had a slight impact on the numbers.
So, all things being fair and equal here is the outcome:
My one day bank total for the day before this experiment was 65 cents
My one day total for yesterday's experiment was 80 cents
There you have it, one discussion only with more interaction showed a 15 cent increase.
Will I stick with the 'one discussion only' theory? I may try a few more days, but that all depends on how well I can keep my finger off the 'start discussion' button! We will see.

@Lolaze The commenting is the fun and important part.

I think other factors did play a role today, I mean yesterday. I will say I didn't have as much 'fun', it felt more like work. I don't get distracted by more than one by the same person, since I pick and choose who I read I'm glad to read more by the same person, if that makes sense.

I have found if you minimize your interaction you lose a lot of money, even on other sites it was true but not as obvious as this site. I have always been a one post writer and I pay attention to those who return comments and those who don't . If there is no response from someone I Commented on, it's their loss...I don't until they do

I always interact a lot. And I did find myself a little bored as not all discussions attract my attention. There are things I don't care to read about.

same here.... just recently I unfollwed several people, who never responded to my comments on their posts, and spent more time interacting with those that do....

I'm glad to see your results...., that's good for me ...because I don't always start a discussion, but have more time to comment and interact ....although i'm findinb it more difficult at this job placement.... I''ve been doing it for an hour or so at bedtime...., which is not ideal really ...., as I often spend longer on than I intended...depending on who else is around ...lol's

Sometimes it's hard to pull away from the computer, but on days like this - it's raining and dreary, it's ok to stay longer.

Thanks for the results. I think having others respond to what you write is important, but it doesn't matter whether it's a post or your comments on someone else's post. As long as others "validate" what you write, earnings increase.

Yes, you'r right - the 'test' was to see if by commenting more on other discussions compare to replaying to comments on my own made a difference. But I still think it all depends on the name you have built up - your reputation so to speak. But earning increased differently so says the test.

@TheHorse There are people on most sites who have a following - they might write a two sentence nonsense post and people will fall all over them..I've seen it at every writing site I've ever been at - same on Facebook. It fits int he 'it's not what you know it's who you know" theory.

@AbbyGreenhill If ones comments are compelling, and others comment on them, mightn't it not matter if one has a reputation? Of course, I'm slightly more likely to comment on the comments of familiar people. So "being known" does add something.

Very interesting finding. I have always said that the fewer discussion we write and the more we interact the better our pay is. I noticed this a long time back. For a period of 6 days I did not write one discussion. I only kept commenting and interacting on some other discussion. At time I would comment back and forth like 10 to 15 times. In the end I was gaining well over a dollar a day by doing this one. I was a little surprised about this too. After I figured this one out I just decided that 1 discussion was more than enough and the more I interacted the better chances I had here. Good luck and I sure hope this one works out well for you. I know it is hard not to write a lot of discussion but at times I don't have time to follow up on all of my own discussions. I feel this play a part of why I don't like to write tons of them daily.

I see the proof - but I also have to say that I have more fun (and that's important) when I start discussions and get a back and forth conversation going. Right now I'm ready to start a new discussion, but I said I would continue with the 1/day for a few days - unless my brain explodes and I change my mind.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes it is temping to do more than one a day. Being here on the islans with this family it makes it so easy for me to think of a lot of stuff I want to write about. Stuff pops up here that doesn't at home. Then I want to say this and say that. But to tell you the truth I really hate to do more than 1 a day or 1 every few days. I sort of feel like I don'[t have any time free to read and comment. Then when I am done and nothing new interests me then I might add another discussion to the pie to see how it goes. I guess for me it is more playing it by ear than having a set number of discussions I post daily.

@AbbyGreenhill Starting a discussion is always time consuming thing. I can do a small post about something and the typing it out after I type it I go back and edit. Although when I am on my cellphone it makes constant spelling errors because of the auto correct changing the words so frustrating.

For me, if i do a test it would be to write a bit more, not less. I used to write two to five per day on the other site, but I'm trying to get things done to allow me more time the rest of the winter to be here, so I'm not here a lot just yet. I've not made quite that much in a single day as yet, but that's okay too.

@MarshaMusselman I am going by what some of the 'old timers' here say. This is more like FB to me, not like A/C, Yahoo Voices, Gather - sites that are/were writing sites. The 'standards' here are pretty much the same as FB. You don't get away with most of these discussions on a true writing site.

Thanks for this informative share. I am new here and I always loved to interact with others even in sites where others were less likely to. And so MyLot looks the place for me. However, I may not be able to post even one discussion a day, but intend to spend more time to know and encourage others - siva
