New Years Eve Practices

Since I got married in 2012, we've celebrated new years even at my in-laws. Until today, I find myself adjusting because the way they celebrate is a little bit different to what I am accustomed to. My family normally starts cooking in the afternoon. We wear outfits based on the 'lucky color' of the year. Then stay up all night until 1am. There's be booze, lots of food and loud music. When the clock strikes midnight, we celebrate by greeting each other happy new year then make noise. It's up to you how you want to do it. I like to be safe so I often just take out metalware and use it as gong. Others like fireworks, horns and honking. Do it as loud as you can to keep the bad spirits away and attract good luck. We normally end the new year party with a generous coin/money shower. One can either be the giver or the receiver. In my in laws it's rather subtle. Lots of food still. Table is overflowing with fruits, nuts and chocolates. We have dinner at 8pm. Sleep a bit then wake at 12mn and honk the cars. Then we eat again and sleep and start the new year with a mass. How do you celebrate New Year?

I am a Filipino here in myLot also and I'm very related with your discussion. The things you have mentioned are also almost the things we had done. Filipino traditions are really great! Happy New Year
