When I was young we lived out of town and no other children lived nearby so it was just me and my brother playing together but I always missed my brother when he was in school. Since I couldn't cross the road by myself my brother would take me across the road with him. One day we went across and lay in the tall weeds shooting at cars (with our pretend guns) saying we were getting the bad guys when it started to rain, we were running and since I was only around 4 years old at that time I couldn't keep up with my brother and then down I went in the mud and lost my shoe, I screamed the quick sand is getting me. My brother came to my rescue taking my hand and running with me, we finally crossed the road and into the back door of our house with me crying about my shoe. Of course my mother was confused as to what happened so my brother told her and the next thing I knew I was being held and told it was okay it was just a shoe and we can buy you a new pair. Not long after that we moved and my journey with girl friends will begin there.

I remember I lose a shoe when I was about the same age, we were on chair lift, I waved my legs and one shoe fall down in the valley.

For a young child it is such a tradegy especially when you think you are in quicksand and will go down in it and never be seen again.

I can imagine you feeling bored and lonely without your brother but sure sounds like you both had a great imagination when we were together. That is awesome. Sounds like a lot of fun. Your mum sure sounded sweet too. :)

I lived out of the city limits when I was a young child. That was about as far as I got out of town. Now that same area is in town. Fun times.

Yeah this was just out of the city limits too and now it is probably incorporated into the town.

Aw Marcy..that is so cute...I can relate to that...because the other day princess' finger got caught in the drawer and she cried, and the two year old was lifted by her four year old brother..it was such a cute picture of love...where it goes when we grow up?

I'm so glad that you had a loving mother who didn't tell you off for losing your shoe.

I think it was because I was so upset about losing my shoe and scared because of the deep mud which I was calling quicksand. @jacoUK

Big brothers are special. It looks like you had a prize winner for a brother.

I did have a very good brother and he took good care of his little sister. He never seemed to act like I was a burden to him maybe because he had no one else to play with either except at school.@just4him

@Marcyaz I think that is the reason rural kids get along with their siblings.

I was fortunate that I had him to play with or I would have been a very lonely child, I had no cousins within my age limit. They were all many years older than me and did not live in the same town.@Tampa_girl7

It sounds like you had a lot of fun playing outside. I remember my rubber boot coming off in the mud. I did manage to get it out but what a mess I made of myself.
