I gave myself a myLot time out!

I was in here a little earlier, but I had to give myself a myLot time out! My husband and I had to play butcher shop. I don't eat 'store bought' ground beef, it has too much who knows what and grease in it.
We buy an eye round and my husband grinds the beef in his professional food grinder. This way it has no fat. My digestive system cannot tolerate fat or grease. So in order for me to have a 'burger' this is what we go through.
Once he grinds the meat I form the patties, wrap each one in plastic wrap and get them in the freezer. I know some of you will say that the meat is dry. Yes, I agree, it is a little on the dry side. However, I usually saute a few mushrooms to put on my burger and I use a lot of Ketchup. In the long run they are not very dry at all.
The biggest time eater doing this is cleaning the meat grinder, but that's my husband's job. Once that was done I cooked some ground beef for his pasta sauce and did a few more beef related things.
Once the kitchen was clean I wanted to take a ride over to the Watts Bar dam to see the water going over the spillway. The TVA has let water out of all 9 dams due to the amount of rain we had. Letting the water out will prevent flooding. I believe that is the first time I've seen water going over that dam.
We have our special dinner menu all planned and we will be working on that later on. So until then I have removed myself from time out and I'll be reading and commenting!
I hope everyone is having a great last day of 2015 and for those of you already in 2016, Happy New Year!

That sounds quite complicated but if it is what keeps you healthy, it is great you have the option. Hope all our friends are having a Happy New Year.

We recently bought some hamburger at Albertson's. It was the worst thing I have ever eaten. I wish we had a grinder. We used to have an old fashioned one but I gave it to my mom when hers wore out. Enjoy your yummy beef.

You can get a hand meat grinder fairly reasonably priced...you can probably get one at a yard sales, we see them all the time.

I am not fond of hamburgers at all and I completely understand that you are dubious about buying ground meat from the butcher. I buy it to make ragu sauce for the pasta but I buy the leanest type.

If I didn't have a husband and a meat grinder I'd take a pass on it totally. I would to for ground turkey at that point.

eh I am sure it is more healthy, and whatever, so you need more toppings! I fail to see that as a bad thing

I see it as a way that enables me to eat like 'normal' people!

I do have to have a little fat in my burger, but that's probably my problem why I gained so much weight, lol. That and all the sweets, chocolates etc. I been eating since I quit smoking. I am going to give it my best to stay away from all the goodies starting tomorrow.
Happy New Year to you and your Husband.

It takes more time to clean it than it does to use it.

It's been worrisome hearing about all the floods. I hope you keep safe.

Thank goodness we are far enough from the floods....I mean our property has new 'lakes' but they will dry up since we won't have rain for over a week.

I remember when I was little, we always went to the grocery store and they had a butcher who made ground beef to order. You could actually watch the meat go through the grinder. That was when we knew what was in our food. I think you are wise to do what you do.

I do to, I don't like mystery meat (or mystery any kind of food for that matter). We had a butcher also when I was a kid and every Saturday we would go to the shop and he made fresh burgers with lots of fried onions for us. We sat a big wooden table right next to the meat locker...it was fun for a kid!

It's good to take a break every once in a while. It's a sort of refreshment for your mind and body. Nothing can beat the real-life moments.
