Wow. Six years, almost!

Early in January, I'll have been at my current job for 6 years. That may not seem like much to some, but it's the longest I've been at one job in about twenty years of work history. It's that much already? I bounced around from caregiving job to caregiving job, mostly because of the company and not me. I had a great job for a few years but that was outsourced to India. I did this and that and the other thing. But for the last six years, I've been doing call center work - which I used to hate - but the people I work with and the decentish pay and the location have made it not only bearable but actually fun at times. I like being well known at a place. I like having respect and showing respect. I like having the chance not just to help customers, but my coworkers. It's nice to be able to finally show the world that I really am stable and not just some flake! Happy New Year, everyone!

I am impressed you managed that long at call center work. I am at the same company where I started in the call center, but within a year I hopped departments, that was horrible awful miserable work. I got tired of being forced to sound like a used car salesman pedding products. I was in BILLING, not sales. Let me educate sure, but quit making me ask if they wanna buy stuff a gillion times

@Rohvannyn yeah, that's why I hopped departments, no sales requirements here I do more with techs than any other people now

I can't stand that either and wouldn't last a minute. In the pharmacy area I at least get to feel like I'm helping people.

Congratulations! That's a big deal and a long time. It's nice to feel like you have confidence and experience at your job - that's an unforgettable feeling. I personally have only worked at my current job for 1.5 years - not quite enough for me to even say I have complete hang of things yet. My previous job I had worked at for over 7 years, and I felt similar to you - it feels good to have friends in the company, experience, training other people and helping co-workers because you know so much. Congratulations and happy anniversary!

I do not like to stay on a job for many years. I have seen people who cannot find a job once their ex-company runs into financial problem, and downsize. Many employers worry about the adaptability of people who stay too long in a job.

Many people are also like you. Career shifters! As of the present time, I don't see myself working or will last a year in a call center company. I have the courage to say this because I'm still young. Many people decided to work in a BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) company because of the high paying salary they offer and they required almost any college/highschool degree anyone have taken.
