I cleaned my room and closet

I spent most of New Year's day cleaning and organizing my bedroom and the upstairs closet. It wasn't something I planned to do. I have been wanting to organize those areas for awhile now.. but figured I"d get to it eventually. The Marching Band is having a clothing drive fundraiser in April and garage sale over the summer... so I was sort of putting off the organizing until then so I'd have items to donate. But we got our first good snow yesterday and the kids wanted to play outside. I haven't dug out any snow pants yet as we hadn't had any snow... I keep bins of clothes in my room and the closet. As I have 4 boys, when one outgrows something I put it in the bins until the next boy down can fit into it. I try to go through the bins twice a year when the seasons change... but I just haven't done it in awhile.. So I started going through the bins to get the snow pants out, and that's when I decided I'd organize the bins... so that's how it started. I practically emptied both the bins in my room, putting the majority of the clothing in bags for donation... the jeans were holey, the styles are old, most of it was bought used and then survived through 2 or 3 boys already. I only kept the nicer things.. Then I moved on to the areas around the bins in my room... I had a couple boxes in the corner that have been sitting there since we moved in. Things like games, photo albums, that sort of stuff that are still packed in boxes from when we moved 4 years ago. I emptied those boxes, and will be donating everything that was in them except the photo albums. So now that corner of my room is full of 4 giant garbage bags of clothes to donate, and 1 box of other junk for the garage sale. Then since I was on a roll I tackled the closet and that was mostly just organizing but I pulled out a few more donatable items and a bunch of stuff that had to be thrown out. So although I didn't plan to do it, I started off my year by working on getting organized and de-cluttering my home! We hope to remodel parts of the house through out this year, so I'm sure I'll have the majority of the house cleaned and un-cluttered before 2017! Have you been doing any de-cluttering?

Yes. Doing one area a day so I don't get sick of doing it right away. Tomorrow I will tackle my drawers and closet. I have gotten my curio cabinet all washed and shiny and cleaned the pantry. There were a few expired things that needed to be thrown out. I feels good to even get those little things done.

Good for you! Seems I"ve lost all energy and motivation towards cleaning up. Work drains me! I would like to get in and clean my boys' room next.. maybe I'll try to tackle a bit of that this weekend.

I do only a little de-cluttering at a time. I find it easier that way. Next week I will a little bit more.

Good for you. The week before Christmas I went through some of our things and took them to the Salvation Army store in town. I definitely need to go through more and take to them in the days ahead.
