Should your dog sleep in your bed?

I never thought it would happen to me, but I've now started letting my dog sleep in my bed. My mum always told me it was very unhygienic but I just love having the company! He sleeps at my feet most nights and cuddles up to me if it is cold. So what do you guys think? Should you let your dog sleep in your bed? Is it unhygienic like my mum used to say?

It never worried me when I had dogs - my cat is welcome too but she is happy sleeping on her own

Never! He can sleep beside the bed in his own bed.

When I was a child, I would let my pet sleep with me. But now I changed my mind and I will not let them sleep in my bed. Like what your mom said, it is not hygienic. It is fine for the pets sleep by themselves.

Our smaller dog- 30 pounds now- glues herself to us at night. And so do our cats- one is 15 pounds of cat. Our larger pup sleeps in her kennel. I'm allergic to dogs. I am going through another bout of congested ear. And yet I somehow need the feel of our Sally pup close by me when I sleep. Same with our Sonny James feline. Guess I am just goofy.

Depends on how big the dog is, and how big your bed is! As to hygiene, just make sure they don't lick your face too much and make sure their paws aren't muddy.

If your dog does not go outdoor, that is still not too bad. If the dog loves to run outside, then it may bring back a lot of ticks and other insects that will hurt you.

My dogs have their own beds to sleep in, so they sleep therre every night. I do't like putting them into bed with me, as I would be afraid I would kick them off, or I would roll over onto them. To me, it is best to get into the habit of letting them sleep my themselves in thir own bed. Their dog beds though, are in my bedroom, one on each side of the bed. They susally sleep there all night, unless I have to put them outside to go. In fact the one dog, wo't get up right away , and I sometimes have to get her up.

I don't have a dog at the moment, but when I did she always slept on my bed. She did that for 16 years and it never did me any harm.

I think a lot depends on the dog and whether you ever expect to have a relationship with a human being who might want to also share that bed.
