Why a Delay?

My husband noticed that our built in soap dispenser at the kitchen sink in Connecticut was broken beneath the counter. As he retrieved it, the bottle splashed caustic Dawn dish detergent into his left eye.
He had the sense to splash water into his eye, but his natural tears dried up. Our eye doctor had him continue rinsing his eye and suggested we get Natural Tear drops.
Our younger son happened to call just then, and offered to get it for us at the pharmacy, since my husband had just shaved and showered and I was about to shower. We had plans to drive to New York City to say goodbye to our in-laws and then attend a birthday party for my older son.
To make a long story short, my husband, who had dressed, simply couldn't make the trip. His eye remained dry, irritated, red, swollen, and painful. He insisted I go to NYC with my younger son and his girlfriend, while he applied his drops and kept his eyes closed.
Although his eye was 50% better the next day, he felt that he couldn't drive to Florida, as we had planned. We left the following day, even though his eye wasn't too much better. He insisted on driving, because he knew that I get nervous driving through New York and New Jersey, not to mention Washington, DC.
Hence the delay. He healed up fine.

It was scary, but he won't have to wear safety glasses when he goes under our sink. The plastic container was hanging by a thread and resting on neatly stacked trash bag boxes. When he removed a box to line our trash bin, the plastic bottle fell and splashed. Luckily, we had a new soap dispenser to replace the old. He was healed totally within the week. I am so relieved, since I was so worried and stressed. I felt so bad that he couldn't say goodby to his brother, who is still so ill, and that he missed our son's special birthday party. However, everyone was so understanding.

I felt bad for my brother, too, who flew down with his wife the day we were supposed to arrive. His son flew down that evening. However, they made us dinner, since we had no time to grocery shop. I was stuck on the phone for three hours trying to get the tv, phone, and Internet rehooked with the terrible cable company we have no choice in using.

That is one long drive all the way down there. It must take a couple of days. I bet it is far more comfortable if somewhat slower than by plane and at least YOU get to choose when you want to stop.

@DianneN It was wonderful thanks. I am looking forward to hearing about your Trip to Turkey! Do you take turns in driving? It is an awful long way for one person to drive unless of course your husband becomes a back seat driver!

@garymarsh6 I am afraid to drive in unfamiliar territory, especially New York, New Jersey, and Washington DC. Pure Mayhem! So my husband did all the driving. Turkey was awesome. I will write posts about it. Very interesting country.

It is a long drive, but we take our time, stop for gas and lunch, stop driving at 5:30 to check in to a hotel, and go out for dinner and a drink. The time passes quickly for me, because I'm online all day. After breakfast, we are on the road by 8:30. We are buying a car to keep here, so that we can fly back and forth from now on. My husband hated the drive down this year, especially due to his eye problem. How was Thailand?

Hope your husband gets well soon... I guess he couldn't cry now, since his tears have dried up..
