Bees in winter
We are having crazy weather around the world. It mild and wet in the UK, very wet in some parts with really bad flooding.
The other day it was nice for a few short hours before it decided we hadn’t had enough rain and started again. While it was nice saw a bee out in the garden. A Bee in December, I was amazed because I don’t think I’ve seen them not in the UK in December. I saw Bees in California in January last year.
Have you seen bees in winter before?
The photo was taken almost 3 years ago.

@kevin1877uk They do not die off at winter but simply return to the hive and huddle together to maintain warmth. Therefore the occasional warm day can still tempt them out if flowers are available.

@Asylum Interesting Barry, I guess with it being nice and mild they were out looking for flowers.

Thank you, so glad you like the photo, the photo was taken some time back and not the bees I mentioned. I was surprised to see them then again it's not that cold, just wet.

@TiarasOceanView Yeah you did and I said that in my ex-wife garden there are some out, not yet flowering, about 2/3 inch out the ground.
Strange crazy weather for sure.

No I haven't seen a bee in the winter. We have just started to turn cold here in NC. Most of the winter has had very mild temperatures, fit for just a light jacket if that.
I am beginning to think that mother nature has taken an extended leave of absence.

@kevin1877uk I might have already mentioned this somewhere else, but I read an article not too long ago talking about the weather in the medieval time period. Apparently even then they had a very mild winter, so perhaps this crazy weather isn't quite due to global warming.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I'm sure if they can go back far enough they will be surprised by the weather in the past. I don't think we are seeing any different from then to now.
