I have been crocheting this crayon roll for quite some time. It's actually very simple pattern, but it took me quite some time to finish it up, by sewing it up and adding the the strands.
I am going to give this to my son, and these beewax crayon sticks are for him to write his work. We used block crayons to write, and found that it's not so easy to write, so I bought these sticks lately.
I might need to make another roll for color pencils soon.

that is very cute and a nice picture of what you did! I tried to get in to crocheting and knitting but just couldn't get the hang of it.

I am not good with them either. I did buy a thing of thick yarn though, I want to try to finger knit a cowl. It seems easy enough.

I started with very thin yarn and knitting needles, as I only had them initially, and those made me feel quite struggling at the beginning. Slowly, the more I knit, the more comfortable I feel. Then I found thicker yarn and knitting needles, I found it much easier to knit. Same went to crocheting as well.
I started to knit a scarf. I am not sure if it's a good idea to take scarf as the first knitting project, it is a very simple pattern, but it took me very long time to finish it. After that, I learned to knit some simple stuffs and toys for my children to play. Then, I have more motivation in knitting. Perhaps knitting or crocheting something useful to you make it more interesting and motivated to learn.
For my son, I plan to make his first knitting project to be a simple ball.
There are many free tutorials online, and I found learning from video tutorials (youtube) is easier for me. I usually searched for the one that I find it easier to understand and follow. I just keep watching the video and follow, until I get it right.
Hope this helps and inspires you to learn crocheting/knitting.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I think finger knitting should be easier. I haven't learn to finger knit a cowl before, I just finger knitted a string, and it can be converted into a wealth, flower, etc.
I have read about arm knitting as well. If you have tried finger knitting, perhaps you can also try arm knitting a scarf. Please share your cowl and tag me when you are done. I'd love to see it.

@TheHorse Nope. I always try to keep it secretly when I want to make something for the children, and give them a surprise. As this crayon roll is too big and took me quite some time to complete, so I just had to crochet in front of them, but he didn't know what it's for or whether I'm making for him.

I love this! It's very cute. I think if you added a button and a loop you could keep it secure when it rolls up. Or did you do that already?

@kaka135 Oh okay. I thought the flowers with the strands might be the way to do it, but wasn't sure!

This person - @AnneEJ is having trouble getting her picture on her discussion.
Would you have any hints for her?
When I was making my bed today, I thought about the fun it was making the quilt that I use as a spread. I embroidered the blocks, sewed them together, and then...

I checked on the post, but I have no idea as well, except for what you suggested her to do. There was once my image didn't show up which is when I added a link to the discussion. But Anne didn't have any links to the discussion, it should be fine.

This is so cute! Like a pencil pounch for the crayons and he can return the colors back to the right space when he's done using it.

Thanks. Yes, my children love the crayon roll. They saw me crocheting the roll, but they didn't know what it's for. When I opened the roll, and showed them the crayons, they were quite excited. They were happy to use the crayons to draw and write.
