Have you ever heard of the "Ben Franklin Effect"?

As weird as it may sound, and I am not sure if any of you know about this already but here it is - If you would like someone to like you, ask them to do you a favor. It may sound very strange but studies have proven that if you do someone a favor, big or small, they like you more and want to help again. The reason why it's called the Ben Franklin effect is because Franklin himself asked an enemy if he could use one of his books, and on thanking him over and over again, they actually became friends for life. It sounds really bizarre but that's what they say! Haha! What are your views on this? Have you ever experienced this before?

@cxndie It is where hostages begin to empathise and defend their captors... If you are into your James Bond movies, Elektra King in The World is not Enough is an example.

Have to find an enemy first...to ask them favor. But to be honest, it wont work in India. Gratefulness is not there in most people's DNA.

Not all people are alike. Yes there are some that spoil our country but I'm sure there would be one in a hundred who you would find worth talking to. :) Me for instance :)

Never heard of the “Ben Franklin effect”, which is interesting because I have heard a lot about Ben Franklin, all my life. Six decades on this earth and you taught me something new! Your discussion brought to mind an old proverb: “If a man wants friends, he must first show himself to be friendly.”

Very interesting. The key may be to show genuine appreciation for the favor and not act like it was owed to you.
