Seven Childhood Memories Challenge

@Lori A Moore challenged us to think of seven memories from our childhood. I am behind (and have been since childhood) but here are my seven now.
1. My absolute favourite thing I had as a child was my playhouse. Yes by night it was a garden/bike storage place but during the day it was my playhouse.
2. I remember turning 6 part way through the school year and deciding I needed to begin grade one. Much to my frustration that wasn't the plan, so I took matters into my own hands and secretly Followed my brother to school.
3. When I went to elementary school everyone went home for lunch. Everyone; there was no possible way to arrange to stay at school for lunch. Every neighbourhood had a school within walking distance and lunch was 1 1/2 hours. Teachers could go out for lunch too. My mom came home on her lunch break to breast feed the babies and have lunch with us.
4. I used to help my dad make breakfast every morning and felt quite proficient. Once when my parents slept in I decided to surprise them. Unfortunately I turned on the wrong burner. The egg carton was sitting on that burner and burst into flames. Luckily my dad rushed in and quickly put it out. I was 6 when I did that too.
5. The first time I went skiing I had to ride the pomalift alone as it's a one person lift. The empty poma lifts return to the bottom quite high up in the air. I envisioned myself dangling from one of them as I couldn't picture how I was going to get off that lift when I reached the top. So, I flung myself to the ground and got away from that lift. My mother coming up behind me had to join me of course. Unfortunately that slope wasn't the easy way down.
6. On the same ski trip I rode up the gondola to the ski slopes with my older brother. There was a stretcher hanging below one gondola car and he told me I would be coming down on that. That was mean as I was already feeling scared in the gondola.
7. The next day on the same ski trip I wanted to go to the baby sitter with my baby brother instead of skiing. She left the baby with her mother and took me to 101 Dalmations with her friends. Now that was a great day. I was seven.
I love skiing and it has been a life long dream to live in a ski resort town. This spring I am going to do that for one month!
This is a pomalift
In this video blog Martin Heckelman demonstrates how to ride a 'Poma' or button lift. These lifts are not very common in North America but you'll find them e...

I did not experience any one of the items on your list. Often with such lists I have several in common with the author, but not yours. Going home for lunch? Nope. U.S. lunches are only 30 minutes long. Most little kids brought a brown paper sack with lunch inside.

My husband does a variation of #4 a few times a month. In him it's not egg cartons, it's turning on the wrong burner, and roasting a burner cover. It's become a running joke in the house that twice a week he cooks, and once a month I'm getting another set of burner covers from Dollar General :)
I have never in my life been on a ski lift. Too afraid of heights! I actually never heard of a pomalift until your post.

I'd quite like to ride a poma lift but I wouldn't like the snow so Winter and skiing holidays don't appeal to me

I have a lot of memories--in fact I wrote a book about them that was published in 2006--both good and bad--if I bring up the good I have to bring up the bad and most people dont' do the latter in these type of discussions. :O)

I hope you have great weather for skiing. I loved your childhood memories. I didn't ski until I was in high school but fell in love fast. I'd still be skiing but my surgeon who gave me a new knee made me promise I wouldn't ski again before he did the surgery.

I used to snow ski all the time. I learned in the Rockies when I lived in Denver, but now skiing is on my "never do again" list unfortunately. At my age, and having not skied for several years now, it would be a complete disaster. I did so enjoy it though when I was younger. And I have a few ski stories to relate too. Hah!
