It's been almost 2 weeks now since I started using myLot. But I'm still wondering on what's the story behind the name "myLot". I tried a quick research but i found no clue. I guess members here who joined at least 2 years ago can explain to me or have an intelligent insight of why myLot is named as "myLot".

Actually they started the site with the word "myLord"...as is used in courts. Somebody heard it wrong...and booked the site name ..as myLot. And it stuck.

A 'lot' may be a small piece of land or anything which is allotted or given or apportioned to someone. It can also mean a collection of things (usually to be sold at auction). So 'myLot' might be thought of as my/your/our space on the web where we can write or make a collection of what we feel and where we can discuss things with people. I believe that the domain name was first registered to a company which sold gardening products but that it was then put up for sale and the company which runs this site thought is was a good, catchy name and somewhat appropriate for what the site is.

@trivia79 There is the other meaning, of course, of one's 'lot' in life. It comes from the same meaning as 'something allotted to someone'. It is used to describe someone’s general situation in life, especially when it is not very good: "Cleaning the house, providing meals, washing clothes: such is the lot of the housewife!" I suppose that it could be applied to quite a number of so-called 'discussions' which one sees here but, personally, I am not too keen that "myLot" should be thought of in what is rather a depressing light!

given that it is so communal rather than personal I feel Ourlot might be a better name

You have a point there. I'm thinking of something like this. If I'm in my discussion, the title should be 'myLot'. If i'm in other's discussion, it should be 'hisLot' or 'herLot'. If it's a suggestion, it should be 'ourLot'. hehehe

Yes! And so far, two suggestion hit the mark! That made me now confuse on which one is the better or more believable.

I assume it's just some random story that truly only makes sense to the handful of people that started the site.
