Tonight begins the last season of American Idol. Why do I still watch, you may wonder?
I watch it for three reasons.
1. I can't sing my way out of a paper bag, but I know what sounds good to me.
2. Last year's winner was from my home state, in a town I visit often.
3. I love to watch J Lo. I am into fashion and makeup, love to see her jewelry, and check out her hairstyles.
And that's it! May the best singer with the right look and personality win.

I think I stopped watching this show after Ruben Studdard won, after that,I either lost interest or something else was on. I prefer to watch the Voice, until I become bored with it, then I will move on to another show.

@DianneN - It is always more fun to watch a show when we feel we have a personal connection to it. We started watching "Bachelor in Paradise" when the son of one of our friends competed in it ... and won $100,000.

@DeborahDiane Our friend's nephew was on The Apprentice and our son's friend was on Jeopardy. It was so exciting, so I know exactly what you mean. Easy peasy money, if you're lucky and smart!

I have only watched a few episodes of American Idol, and that was when I was visiting a friend or family member that watched it. I am a fan of The Voice and watch that program.

I am watching right now as I read your post and respond. I watch, at least some, every year. AI has done some great things and America has discovered some great talent because of AI.
It is just time for AI to retire.

I used to watch that show in the very beginning, the same with Dancing with the Stars. But I grew tired of both of the shows and stopped watching them, although AI has produced some very fine and talented artists over the years.
I think that this was the first type of show like this, and with it coming to an end, I wonder what the next new type of show will be. I guess time will tell.

I will watch some of it, but only when it is closer to the end. I don't care to watch the audition segments.
