Day 28 – Sanctify Yourself 2 Chronicles 29 When it comes to becoming right before God, what do you do? How do you sanctify yourself? How do you become pure and holy before God? On our own it cannot be done. We need the Holy Spirit to bring us the purity of regeneration in Jesus Christ. It is only through the Holy Spirit that we can sanctify our souls and stand before God pure and holy. Hezekiah was a righteous king. He did that which was right in God’s eyes. His sole purpose was to bring the kingdom back to God. To that end he brought back the priests and Levites to minister in the temple and take away all the filth found there from previous reigns, especially that of his father who closed the doors to the temple and caused Judah to sin by worshiping idols and sacrificing everywhere but in the temple of God. Hezekiah told the priests and Levites to sanctify themselves and consecrate themselves to God. In order to do that there was a purification process they needed to go through so they could minister before God and offer the burnt sacrifices to God. As Christians we have the power of the Holy Spirit helping us to become pure and holy before God. When we determine to know Jesus as Savior and Lord and love the Lord with all our heart, soul and mind, and love our neighbor as ourselves, we are on the right track to purification and sanctification. We must also put away the deeds of darkness that was our life before we accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. We are a new creature, all things are made new through Jesus blood and righteousness. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. (KJV) Sanctification includes confession. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (KJV) Before we accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord we were despicable, unrighteous, unholy, impure, but when we accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, He sanctified us through His blood. Titus 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (KJV) How do we become sanctified? We cannot, but with the Holy Spirit it is possible. Hezekiah called the priests and Levites to holiness so they could stand before God and perform the sacrifices and duties of the temple before God. It required getting rid of the filth, not only found in the temple, but in their lives as well. Sanctification is ridding our lives of the filth of this world. Let’s pray: Father, help me stand before You in all holiness through Your Holy Spirit. Sanctify my life for Your service. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
