So many of you here are into photography and take some really amazing photos. I have a little Nikon Coolpix and know that I will have to invest some money into a better camera to take better pictures. My question is, what camera do you recommend for nature shots for a somewhat beginner that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? That is mostly what I would take pictures of, although I do take pictures of my grandchildren and dogs as well. Whenever you try and review information online about cameras, it just confuses me. I would really appreciated any kind of input you may have.

I personally think Nikon is one of the best cameras but with digital it's more about the megapixel than anything else. To get really high quality pictures you'd need a minimum 16 mega pixel camera.

I know those who have professional cameras like you can relate . But my smartphone can really be so useful for me in taking shots at whatever time i would like too and as you can see in some of my posts, they are also very nice.

@SIMPLYD I would have to buy a new phone. I don't have enough memory on the phone I have now to take a lot of pictures.

I agree that most cameras on smartphones are quite good. I was wanting a camera that I can use to take close ups and things like that.

I have a small Canon Ixus and I am very satisfied, but it's still a basic camera. We had Nikon in the past, but now I prefer Canon.

@simone10 Be sure to buy a camera with a good optical zoom. The Ixus 170 has a 12x optical zoom that is great to take nature shots and 20 Mega Pixel, a very good quality.

Any digital camera with a EOS Electro optical system is good enough.. For landscape and nature photography you don't need very specialized lenses. My cannon d1100 EOS has been great for me.

I can't help as all I have is a point and shoot. It serves it's purpose though, and I'm able to take reasonable shots of my garden etc.

My camera is okay but for some reason it doesn't take very good pictures up close, even on macro. I think it's probably me and not the camera...lol.

i've a canon rebel xt that the hubs got me some years back ('fter he broke mine...) 'n then did some work fer a fella who bought me a great zoom lens ('least it t'weren't a calf 'r pup...usually what folks give to me'n lieu 'f payment). i'd really like a macro lens fer those close-ups 'f insects, flowers 'n such, but refuse to pay $350 fer the dang thingy... that bein' said, there's many great lil cameras out there. the higher the megapixels the better quality pic. i reckon depends'n exactly what'cher lookin' fer? i thought those lil coolpix thingies did purty good? i've no personal 'xperience with 'em, jest what i've heard.

They do pretty good overall but I want to be able to take close up pictures of flowers and insects and things like that. Even on macro, my camera doesn't do very well close up.

We have a Sony Cybershot with 10x zoom. It is a very awesome camera, but can be a little above the low price range. The pics however don't pixelate.

I am a loyal canon user mainly because of its durability. For pro shots I own Canon EOS 600D. I'm not a professional but the i am happy with outdoor shots, I can't say the same with the night shots though. For underwater shots I still have my Canon D10. I have it for 5 years already, not as crisp as I wanted it but it does the job!
