She is right to charge more, since she is given the understanding that there are just two of you. The best you can do is to ask for a low increment. You have to pay more because when 4 persons stay in a house rather than 2 persons, there are more wears and tears,

@dibz123 I think the next door tenants are with her long enough, and she trusts them. I think you can ask her to delay the increment till 6 months later, or just increase by just 20 Euros.

I guess it all depends on how it all is, mean 550 for an rent house surely doesn't matter how many people are living there. If think she need to give you more notice in the rent rise, maybe 3 months notice of any rent changes.

@dibz123 I'm sure in the UK they have to give you so much notice of any changes in your rent.

Funny that number of people rule the roost out there when it comes to charging rent. Surely she did not ask you about your lifestyle which could be far less bothersome to her than with just one person occupying the premises sometimes.

Go ahead with your plan, or as @scheng1 advised, and start looking for new place as well, maybe you get reasonable

If you signed a lease this could be an issue because you could be in violation of breaking it. I guess you should check with some rent authorities in your area and see what your legal right are on this one. I don't know much about this.

No i didn't sign lease papers yet but anyways we r sorted now Ann. Shes let us off because i told her we were both moving with husbands from day one and she never asked us.

Surely that is not justified to increase your rent just becouse two men moved in. does she want to mean that she would still increase rent if you both happen to have babies next month?

@dibz123 you and your husband are one, you are a part of him and he is a part of you so there is no reason for her reaction. But lets assume she thought those are only friends you are accomondating, she wil understand once you explain to her.
