Oh my goodness, I just got pranked by MTV

I answered the phone, and they asked me if I was so and so, and I said yes. The guy started talking about my gamestop account being hacked into, and over $4000 was spent using my account. I was livid, but he seemed nice enough and he said they would take care of it.
I told him that no way could I afford any of this and he said I could go to jail and be charged $25,000.00 I started crying, as I didn't know what to think.
He said that he would even call the police for me and report the person that hacked into my account. I was getting more upset, and then finally, he told me who he was, and that I was pranked by MTV.
I don't watch MTV at all, and it makes me wonder how he even knew who I was. Anyway, when he told me I had been pranked, needless to say, I was very upset, and I asked him how he could do that to me, and he apologized and told me that everying is fine.
That was a relief to hear that, but to put me through what he did until I found out really set me on edge. I guess I sholdn't have accepted the call, but dumb me, I did. I just hope that nothing happens becasue of this phone call. Now, I really want to believe that everything is okay, but at the same time I am totally scared.

When you answer the phone, you never really know who is on the other line. It might have been MTV, and it might have been some thief. Just be aware, that like on the Internet, on phones, things are not always what they seem at first, or as in this case, on the second hand.

I just wish, that I had never accepted the call and blocked them. What I can't figure out is how they got my number in the first place. That is very scary. I am still a little worried about it, but I have prayed to God, that if anything has happened, that he will take care of it, and I know he will, of that I have no doubt.

@rosekiss I really think God wants us to handle the little stuff like phone calls from strangers. He has more important things to do, don't you think?

@ElizabethWallace I think he will help us with anything, big or small, but when it comes to the phone call, I did praise Him, but in a way, it was my fault for asnwering it, as I should have just ihung up on that person. I checked my phone calls, and there was no number listed, which means they don't want anyone to know who they are. That sucks and I am upset at myself, that I even answered it. I hope that nothing happens to me that is for sure.

I was really crying too, as he had me really believing that my account at gamestop was hacked and lots of things were charged against me, but when I changed the password, and logged it, nothing showed up, so then I know it was a prank. I just don't understand why people have to do that to others. It was scary at first, that is for sure.

Sorry that you were pranked. I heard some radio stations doing those prank calls, and I didn't like them at all. Perhaps I just don't know how to appreciate those entertainment values, and don't understand why it's so funny to make fun of others. Those calls can make others very worried. If not reading from your title, I'd thought it's a cheating call.

I was very concerned and I stil am, but nothing has come from it, so that is good. I do know that my gamestop account is okay, as nothing was charged against me, however, I did change the password, as I got an email from gamestop that I had requestied a password change, but at that time I hadn't. Once I got the email, I went back in and changed it again, to one that can't be figured out, so now everything is okay.

Wow! That sounds crazy! I would have been livid too. If you still have the number you should probably do a reverse phone number look up to make sure it was indeed MTV and if it was call the corporate office of MTV and verify that they are doing a prank show. If not, you should probably change your GameStop information online to ensure your account is safe guarded.

I sti.l do have the number in my phone, and I have changed my password in gamestop so that it won't happen again. I was very upset that is for sure, as I felt iit wasn't right to prank people like that. I was crying, and he did feel sorry for me, and told me what was up then, but it still bothered me that I was picked to do this too. It might have just been some punk kids doing it too.

I didn't think it was either, and I was very upset about it. I told them that it wasnt' right to do that. I am a senior citizen, and anything could have happened, hearing that stuff. They need to stop and think before they do that to anyone.

That was mean. My dad kept getting calls so I turned the ringer down so he wouldn't even hear it ring.

I thought it was very mean too. I was getting more upset at him the more he kept talking. I asked him why he would do that, and all he could say is sorry. If anything had happened to me, he would have been responsibe for it. Thank goodness, noting happened.

I did tell them that it wasn't right what they did, and they did apologize, but still, it didn't change a thing, as I will not change my mind about being pranked. I hope it never ever happens again, as I will still feel the ssame way again,

I hope not either, as they had me very upset, and I was crying. I think it got to them, and that is when they told me it was a prank. People need to grow up and stop pranking people, as not everyone likes them. My son will pull pranks on me but that is different, as they are funny, but this one that called me wasn't funny at all. Next time I am not going to accept any calls that I don't recognize.

It was a hard prank to swallow, making me think my gamestop account had charges on it. I just went in there, and it doesn't so that is good, however, I did receive an eamil saying that I changed my password, which I hadn't then, but since I got the phone call, I changed it again, so that whoever changed it before, won't be able to get into my account now. It is sad when others do this. It has happened to me before but with other accounts.

Yes I did, and nothing happened, thank goodness. Someone did change my password, as I received an email about it. I immediately changed it to one that no one will be able to figure it out, at least I hope not anyway. Once I chagned it, I logged in, and checked, and everrything is okay. I am so gald of that too, as I was very worried as i know thee are a lot of people out there trying to steal others identities.

What if he did that to someone who had a heart condition and they had a heart attack. It's just not right!

@whiteream I wish I knew. It upset me so bad, that I hardly slept that night. It affected me, and all he could say is sorry. That wouldn't be enough if anything had happened to me. I would have sued him for damages if it had.

What if that dumb caller have called a person with a serious heart condition or something similar? That person would surely fall down then and there with a stroke.
In this economy dumping a bill this huge and add on to the threat of police and courts. Well you have the recipe of disaster right there.
I prank my friends and family too but I am mindful of the consequences. I never ever play a prank that might hurt someone physically, mentally and emotionally.
Pranks are for fun so, let them stay that way.

I am not against them, but it is just the way they did it that really got me upset. To make me think that my gamestop account had been hacked into, was so wrong, however, I did get an email from gamestop that my passwerd had been changed, and I never changed it, then, but after I saw the email, I went in and changed it so that no one will figure it out. At least I don't think they will anyway. There has not been any charges against me on my accouint, as they would let me know if there were, and there wasn't, so that is a very good thing.
