Jodhpur is a city in the western state of Rajasthan in India. Being in Jodhpur is like finding yourself in an eddy of colorful culture. The colorful city, mighty old forts and the spicy delicious food awakens your senses. Jodhpur's forts and palaces speak the story of its remarkable history. History, which steeps this city. Jodhpur is home to one of the largest and grandest private residence of the worls- The Umaid Bhavan Palace. This palace is home to the current Maharaja Gaj Singh II. The elegant and imposing Umaid palace brings back the memories of the opulent and royal era of the Rajputana grandeur. Complete with a personal collection of vintage cars, the trip to Umaid Bhavan gives you a glipmse into the lives of the royalty in India. Another beautiful destination is the Mehrangarh Fort. One of the largest forts in India it was built around 1460 by Rao Jodha. Built atop a hill at the height of 125 metres from the ground, the fort provides mesmerising panoramic view of the Jodhpur city with its blue walled houses, thus the lending the name of "Blue City" to Jodhpur. Mehrangarh fort has many well curated galleries displaying a rich collection of the antiques of that era like elephant howdhas, palanquins, treasury, armoury and paintings. While touring around Jodhpur don't forget to explore the local market and shop for beautiful handicrafts made by the local artisans. The nooks and crannies of the city hold cultural treasure in terms of delectable cuisine and exquisite handicrafts and artwork. Do let me know how you felt about Jodhpur, if you've already visited or what else would you like me to cover, if you're planning a visit to Jodhpur.
