£6 Million - That's a Lot of Creme Eggs

Well, perhaps Cadbury may now realise that 'secretly' changing the traditional Creme Egg recipe was their smartest move. I have just read that the change has lost Cadbury over £6million in Creme Egg sales. For those who don't know UK brand, Cadbury was bought by US giant, Kraft in 2010 and is currently owned by Mondelez. Cadbury first launched the Creme Egg in 1971 and whilst the extremely sweet Creme Egg is not to everyone's taste, it has been hugely popular. Last year however, the traditional Dairy Milk shell was replaced by a standard cocoa mix chocolate, which is presumably cheaper. Maybe it was thought consumers were ignorant and would not notice. That was most definitely not the case. Some people were also disgruntled with the traditional 6 Creme Egg box having been replaced with a box containing one less. Do you like or did you like Cadbury Creme Eggs? If so, did you buy any since the recipe change? I know I very deliberately never bought a single Creme Egg last year. £6 million down in Creme Egg sales tells me that I was not alone.

Yes the Cadburys brand is so sad now..over here it is not Cadburys at all..it is owned by Hersheys I believe. All chocolate is rubbish here in my taste..I miss the old Cadburys in England.

@TiarasOceanView Yes, very sad to know that big companies buy up places like this, presumably just with money-making ideas in mind and do not care about what they ruin in the process. Seems to happen with so many places these days.

Yeah, must admit I've been trying to avoid by Cadburys these days in a sort of protest. Sad as it used to be a well known, trusted brand.

It usually does not work, and in UK less than in other countries. Remember when Twinings changed the blend of its Earl Grey a few years ago.

Not being a tea-drinker I obviously didn't pay that one much attention, but I can well imagine, especially as Earl Grey is quite well known.

@Darroch They turned back, and offered the old blend again.

@topffer Good to know that they saw the error of their ways. However, not convinced that Creme Egg will ever be returned to its original recipe (even with £6 million loss in sales), though guess only time will tell.

I didn't know about the buyout. WE used to love those Easter eggs, but not anymore, we find them too filling now.
