When Life Takes An Unexpected Turn

Or there won't be a new computer tower next week. My son took his girlfriend to the doctor this morning and the brake line busted. When my older son did the tuneup and oil change, he told me there was a problem with the brake line. He told me it wasn't urgent but I should have it looked at soon. I figured it could wait until after I got my computer. I was wrong. My older son also could not do the brake line himself so that meant I had to take it to a shop. He works at a car shop, so I took it to where he works. Three hours and $386.75 later I can honestly say it's going to be a couple months before I have the money saved for my new computer tower. So now I'm looking at March and all I can say is nothing else more important than my computer better come between me and it. I am not a happy camper at the moment. On a happier note, the windows are covered so I should see some savings in my heating bill. I hope your day was much better than mine. Thanks for reading.

I really hate car problems but they do happen with great regularity. Sorry you will have to wait for your computer.

My youngest just told me he would help me as much as he can with gas for the car and bills so I can get the computer sooner than two months - I hope. March is so far away and this laptop isn't trustworthy either. I never know when I'm not going to have this to work on anymore. So I'm praying it keeps going until I get the new one.

@just4him If you can't afford it sooner, a tablet can be had for $50 and you can Mylot easily on a tablet.

@BelleStarr Does a tablet allow you to write in Word so I can work on my manuscripts?

Sorry for that. Hope your computer will work happily for you for longer time. Our washing machine has been having problem for quite some time, and finally it seems not be able to work anymore. We decided to purchase a new one in this coming weekend. We have been thinking whether to get it repaired or get a new one, but considering the repair cost may be quite high, and the washing machine has been working for us for more than 10 years, so perhaps it's time for it to retire and rest well. I also wanted to get a new computer for quite some time, but as my old computer is still working, so that will be put to much later. More to come before the computer, especially when I have a new baby coming soon.

There is always something that comes along and cars are notorious for being that something.

Yes they are. I shouldn't complain too loudly though as I've had it for two years and this is the first major expense I've had with it. It just came at a very bad time.

Valerie, that stinks. I'm so sorry to hear that. March is only a few weeks away. You can always rent one at Rent a Center until then.

@just4him Good point. Maybe you can borrow someone's computer in the meantime or use the computer at the library. *shrugs*

@KristenH Since the laptop is still working, I'll just keep plugging away here. I'm thinking about getting back to work on the novel, though it's going to be in a different Word program when I do get the new computer. I'm also going to get the latest Microsoft Office.

My older son made the same suggestion, however I see that as a complete waste of money. It costs so much more renting from them. It would be better to save my money and buy it new.

My youngest son came in here and said that God knew I would need the money, and offered to help out as much as he can so I can save faster for the computer.

It seems you are not slated to get a new tower anytime soon but at least your brake line is repaired.

@just4him He sounds like a wonderful son to you to offer to help even though he doesn't have much and is saving for his books and tuition for college.

Yes it is. My younger son came in the office last night and told me he would do what he could to help out so I can save sooner for the new tower. He doesn't have a lot of money as everything he's making is going towards his books and tuition for college this semester. I really appreciate it, so hopefully I can get the tower next month instead of waiting until almost the end of March for it. We'll see what happens.

Well I had enough unexpected expenses, over the last few months, some things not taken care of yet, but either you get used to things all happening at once or you keep stressing. Our car cost must more than this to fix one big issues, but still more expenses on it.. one big headache, when it rains it pours. or like they say it comes in three, and around here it does.

This was round two on the car this month, so I spent as much for the car as I would have a new computer. I don't want to see a third, unless it being the second time for the car makes it three. Then I'm ready for something good now.

Brake lines are really tough to fix. My husband did them once on our van and he never cusses, that day he did.

@just4him No they have to be bent just right or the fluid won't flow. And the brake lines are thin metal and easily bent, making getting them just right difficult.

Sorry for the delay in getting a new computer. I know the frustration you must be having about it. But at least your car is in better working order now. You wouldn't want to be out driving and hit your brake pedal only to continue moving on and be in an accident. Prayers for a better day.

Well atleast the car is fixed so you don't break down in this cold weather or anything. I'm sure if you keep saving money you will see the earnings again.

That's what I did to save for Pip, but she didn't need the surgery it would only spread her cancer faster, so it looked like I could put the money towards the computer, obviously that didn't happen as the car needed it more. Now I need to start over saving.
