Scared of the unknown... why?

fear of the unknown

Are you one of those people who are afraid to try new things? And the only reason that you can think of is that you don't know what's ahead or what to expect. I've felt that from time to time. I'm still trying to figure out why I am feeling this despite the fact that I can still consider myself as a daredevil. I get scared but, with trembling knees, I'd go out there and try it anyway. Though in the end, I knew I only gave less than 50% of me... because I was scared right from the start. The results then weren't that all satisfying. I don't really know how to start heads on--with that really confident attitude. Sometimes I think I only fake that confidence that I've always had. At times I feel bad and it puts me down. I don't know where or how I get whatever-it-is to get myself back up and still go on as if I've never fallen down. I don't know if it's guts or courage...maybe just my instincts? I don't know. Over the years, I guess I can say that I'm still grateful I did try. If there are two things I know and sure of, 1) experiences made me realize that I will never know until I try, 2) the best thing about it, whenever I feel unsatisfied, I get that feeling of wanting to try it again and again--more and more confidence each time--until I'm satisfied.

I am only afraid of certain things-if it will completely change my life in an unknown way it will scare me a little bit. But I try to have faith in these situations and pray a lot.

@mnjhun1 Probably because I have been homeless many times, hungry and lived with other people way too often. So if it will affect things in that way it scares me. I like having security of some kind since I have been through more than enough already in my life.

I think your fear is legitimate. A lot of us are afraid of the unknown, including me. I am always scared at new opportunities even though they could be amazing. I think for me, it's the risk of failure - or even the risk of being put out of my comfort zone or in a situation where I don't know what to do. But that is life - seriously - me and you must get over this. Or we will end up being complacent in the same job and same lifestyle forever, wishing we would have taken that risk!

I definitely have to agree. What I am trying to get used to now is have less expectation and do more. That way I feel more excited than nervous XD

I never felt afraid to try to go to other countries first time in my life, and was so grateful all were smoothly done. What is important is we have the fighting spirit.
