Dumb Accidental Purchasing: Amazon Prime

It's like when that blur doesn't quite become real. It's like walking through a fog. Your not quite asleep, but not quite away. Your body is moving, but just for that desperately needed swig of water, and then it's straight back to bed. No nee to fully awake. That couch, it looks so comfy. The lighting, its just right. I'll sit, but just for a moment. The roku remote in your hand before you notice. The blur, the fuz, so comfy, zzzzzzzz. The first thing I did when I awoke two ago was check my email. I did not expect the top email to be one confirming my Amazon Prime membership. The time stamp? 1:43 AM. The device? The Roku? Oh my, oh my, what have I done? I have lost a dollar from my bank account and enrolled in Amazon prime in my sleep haze. Should I face palm? Does this call for a deep sigh? Did I just pay 1 dollar for something I can cancel in 30 days? Does that mean its alright? Should it be that easy for a sleeping person to order television? Why so many questions? It is what it is. I have to cancel my new Amazon Prime membership one way or another, but I reckon I might as well watch some TV between now and then! I am now over the embarrassment of sleep ordering. Giving this Amazon Prime thing a chance. That answers a question. Why is it so easy to order Amazon Prime? Because, you might like it and decide to keep your subscription. I have heard that it comes with this, that and the other. I don't know what this, that or the other is. I don't even know how much it costs a month if you keep it. I do know, they have some fantastic shows! Star studded line ups are luring me in, justifying another monthly fee. Even now I feel the glee knowing that I shall soon be reunited with Downton Abbey, so many seasons to catch up on. And that new Sponge Bob movie is pretty cute, and Antonio Bandaraz does make a nice pirate. Back on planet Earth, I realize that I now must suffer with a month of free TV that only cost 1 dollar. Can't complain, but better start catching up on episodes if I don't plan to keep the subscription. Let's just say, I'm giving this Amazon Prime thing a chance. One month, let's see if Amazon can win my business.

The Amazon Prime membership is an annual thing, not monthly. The payment is $99 up front, which will get you access to all of their free streaming content. You can also borrow a free book from the Kindle Lending Library each month, and they will give you your choice of a free prerelease book (to keep!) every month through the Kindle First program. There is also a large amount of music available through the Amazon Prime Music program. Oh, and of course you get the free 2-day shipping with your membership. It goes for pretty much every item you order, and you get discounted 1-day shipping as well. You also have the option to choose their No Rush shipping option, which is basically regular shipping, but often gets you nifty bonuses like $1 credits for books/movies/music or $5.99 credits for Amazon Pantry orders. Another benefit is that you can create a 'household' link between more than one Amazon account and share some Prime benefits. Right now, my mother-in-law has the paid subscription, and we've added my account to her household. I get the shipping discounts, access to the Instant Video library, and access to one of the Kindle First books for $1.99... which may actually be something all members get, but I haven't really researched. Household links also allow you to share your purchased content between the accounts, so I have access to her books and videos and she has access to mine without either of us having to purchase the titles again. I think she might even be able to access my magazine subscriptions on her Kindle app...

I guess this, that in the other is quite a bit. For the price, that is a great deal. I just do not know that I want to pay it all up front like that!

Amazon Prime is pretty expensive now, it's $ 99 a year. I have canceled because it was not interesting for someone living outside the United States.

I'm watching it for Downtown Abbey, a British Show! Heh. The programing is OK. But, the Children's section of Amazon Prime is fantastic. That's the one thing that has me considering it. My daughter loves Odd Squad, and that's on prime. They have Care Bears, Barney, Power Rangers, The New Spounge Bob Movie, Sponge Bob, Dora The Explorer, Smurfs, Bob The Builder, Thomas the train and more great children's TV and Movies.

@LadyDuck Oh yes. My youngest is 8, and I still try to steer here towards suitable television. Not easy with some of the muck out there!

Yes it is the yearly rate that they charge if you decide to keep it. I have to say Amazon is best only if your order frequently for shipping costs lowered, otherwise it is a waste of money.

I don't order through Amazon, but mostly because shipping prices. I don't know that I would shop with them more because of Prime, though.

I am a member of amazon prime. There are many many perks. It's now $99.00 per year. My first year was only $88.00 or something like that but the next year went up to $99.00. Anyway, I don't use the Amazon Instant Video too often but I do benefit from two day shipping. You can borrow a book via amazon prime if I am not mistaken, but I have kindle unlimited which is an additional charge.. Enjoy it while you have it. It won't be a monthly charge but a yearly one if you do choose to keep it.

Ah, It is not more expensive than competitors, but it is more annoying to pay that up front. I will probably cancel it just based off that fact. I might keep it if I could do monthly payments.

@BethieAnnie I guess some people would be happier to make a monthly payment. One thing to keep in mind, every time they fail to deliver on the date, call or Chat with them and they will give you an extra month for free.

Not a bad price for everything you get. I am still a brat and don't want to pay it all up front.

The only reason I have the roku is for my daughter. She can use it to stream PBS kids for free. I have rabbit ears and a converter, and just pick up the channels through the digital box free. They added two more channels so we have 20 or so free channels. People are saying this Amazon Prime thing is $99 up front. I don't like that part of it.

@sharon6345 I've never heard of a Net Gear box. I need to check it out. I can't wrap my brain around $99 up front for Amazon Prime!
