I am a vegetarian. When I was young I swore I would never date anyone who ate meat. LOL well at 32 I have never dated anyone who was a vegetarian. The other night for dinner the guy I am seeing made Steak for him and his son. When it was done there was a pool of blood on his sons plate. He was licking it up and wiping his hand across his plate and licking his fingers. I was so so sickened. They offered my son a piece to try and I was very surprised but impressed that my son was willing to try it. It took him a long time to chew it but he did eat it and said it was okay. Blood dripped out of it onto the floor and his sock so I was even more shocked he continued to eat it. One time at Old Country Buffet there was blood on his plate from roast beef and he lost his appetite. I like to see him eating new foods I just can't stomach watching him eat them lol so I have to turn away.

If it makes you feel any better, the liquid isn't actually blood. That's removed from meat before it's sold. What you're seeing is water from the tissues, which is colored red because it's mixed with a protein called myoglobin. That's actually the difference between red and white meat: red meats have a lot more myoglobin in them, while white meats may have very little or no myoglobin.

Wow I am really shocked by this. I am actually going to have to look this up to see if you are right or not. I have never heard of such a thing. I am not sure if it would make me feel any better even if it isn't blood lol. The whole thing was just so gross to watch. It seems to smell like blood to me ick.

@shaggin I know, right? I ended up looking it up because my mom told me that at one point, and I didn't believe her. It's interesting how we categorize these things in our minds... I always think of it as a 'raw meat' smell rather than a 'bloody' smell. There isn't much difference between the two, though, except one seems a little more palatable than the other. Hm...

I like a good steak, but I like mine well done. I am not a vegetarian but meat eater as I am, I feel sick just picturing the bloody meat. I would have looked away as well. I have friends who are vegetarians and we get along pretty good. When we are out to eat somewhere, I make sure that they are not going to feel bad. I let them know that I can certainly eat what they can, so the task of deciding where to go is always up to them.

Oh no, I could not handle that and I am not a vegetarian. I eat very little meat, but mostly the white meats. Steak is awesome I guess for some people. I am surprised your son ate it.

Funny that you've never managed to date a vegetarian. Life is funny sometimes.

@Marty1 I am a vegetarian, not a vegan. I was sitting in a restaurant in Indonesia and I recall a Canadian sitting next to my table telling aloud - "No fish, no meat, no eggs" Then the waiter came over and I said "that applies for me too"! In places where water is not readily available some get food poisoning due to poor hygiene as meat needs proper cleaning etc. - siva

@Marty1 I know how you feel; I also think aloud how you can be an animal lover and then eat meat. I feel if we have a soul, they too have - siva
