I am Socially Awkward...I Think

I am not really an introvert, but I am definitely not an extrovert. I know how to be sociable when the situation calls for it, and I love going to friends' parties. But whenever I run into people whom I can call acquaintances, or a new neighbor, or co-worker from a different department, I do not know how to strike up a conversation. I am bad in small talks. I would most likely make a comment or two about the weather and then I am stumped. I am by no means a snob, but there are times that I even do not what to say about the weather that I end up not saying anything at all beyond a nod and smile or a shy "Hey!"
I know that I can improve my personality, but I am still struggling.

Start with just any one person and slowly you will catch up being a good conversationalist.

I always try to spot people from afar, then walk a different direction because I am not good at striking a conversation also.

My son is also. He asked me how to make friends? I'm like ummmmmmmm, just started talking- I don't know. I don't have any problems making friends because I don't meet strangers. Either way- over time, when you start opening up more to people you'll find that it is easier said than done. I find a common interest or give a compliment and that generally leads to a conversation. Good Luck!
