I am an Indian and sometime I feel proud on it but some time I feel shame as India is a country where people worship godess Saraswati but do not send their daughter to school ,where people worship godess Laxmi but do not want that their wives to earn

I think the environment has changed except in villages and where people themselves are illiterate. Now the girl child is even preferred by some couples and adopt them in preference to boys.
But I agree there is much hypocrisy in society and everyone has to fight for change for the better. As Gandhi said - .“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” - siva

Illiterate people have excuse for their actions but what's the excuse for well-educated people?
Some of them are worse than all of them put together.

It's true but the mentality of Indians is changing day by day, as I see the localities they are adopting the modernization slowly we should try our best to bring this soon in our localities, government is also showing interest in this issue

The mentality is changing but at a snails pace. But I have hopes that it would gain speed in coming years since the youth now is intolerable of such petty issues.

I don't think you should be ashamed of where you come from. Religion is not necessarily the totality of your culture - unless you make it that way. There are other cultural aspects that make you, you. For example, food, ceremonies, family gatherings, history --- religion isn't everything. In fact, I am from the United States and I don't practice Christianity. So it seems as though we are in the same boat.

I think in every country we have a bridge that women need to fight to be able to cross. I hope things change for the girl child

I agree with you @Komalmodi341. Although I belong to a family who doesn't interfere with my education and my career choices yet there are certain restrictions that are put on a girl while the sons are allowed more freedom.
