I am still dealing with computer issues and honestly, it's no fun to be on a computer that takes ages to do anything at all. So, I have been doing other things mostly. I have started writing down some of the patterns I have developed for the knitting looms and blogging them. I have been knitting and such so much, I have cracked and bleeding fingers. The yarn and the weather dries out the skin so much. I have also been attending to some things that have been neglected too long. I hired The Boy and his friend to clear out a back closet and get rid of things that don't need to be stored there. I feel much lighter. I want to feel ready to move at a moment's notice, though I haven't any plans to do so at this time. I have also ordered some new memory for this computer. There are four slots for memory. Unfortunately it maxes out at 4GB and I don't want to worry about mis-matched memory so I ordered a four stick set that will give me 4GB. They sell 2GB sticks, but the computer will ignore anything over 4 so it wouldn't do me any good to load up 8GB. Still, it will be a lot better than what it is trying to work with right now. I hope it will be enough to speed the thing up to working capability. And even though the tablet is pretty quick, the charger is no good and so I struggle with that, too. I am waiting on some Amazon gift cards from Swagbucks and then I will buy a new charger for the tablet. One day, I may be computing normally. And that is pretty much it. I will be returning to normal activity one day. Waiting for my memory to arrive.

I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to let us know what's going on. I was worried about you. Now I know that you are okay (health wise) and very happy We are missing your funny writing and the serious one too. Keeping my fingers crossed so you get everything okay soon.

I hate fighting with the computer to do things. I am hoping I can get things running more smoothly.

@ivyparkgirl Many of us see each other every day, or close too it. When someone goes Awhol it is hard not to worry. Have you checked into windows 10 while it is still free. Once you have 4 GB it could work. I read that even people with old WIndows xp 2 GB machines have it up and running.

I got me some swagbucks that are going to be spent at Amazon and a charger is one of the things they will be buying!

@Rollo1 I bought one from Amazon before and it lasted a year, the problem is it looks like the real think but I suspect it is not. My son in law suggested the Walmart one and it is working great.

You are right, more than 4 GB are not recognized, so it would be wasted money. Computers are a source of troubles.

I would rather have the 4GB spread out over the 4 slots, too, rather than fill two slots with the 2GB cards.

@Rollo1 The important is to have all of them of the same brand, I have noticed that mixing sometimes slow down the system.

I have heard that slathering the hands in a good lotion (Eucerine comes to might) and sleeping as long as possible with socks or gloves on the hands (I will take them off, but can at least sleep in them for awhile before I do), and one might be able to help heal the hands

I am sorry that you've lost your memory. Perhaps playing Sudoku or Tetris would help?

The memory should not need to be matched unless they are operating at different frequencies, in which case it would make a difference.

@Rollo1 This is most likely due to the speed difference. If you use two different speeds then the whole memory will operate at the lower speed. Therefore 2 Gb of 1600 Mhz coupled with 2 Gb of 3200 Mhz will run as 4 Gb of 1600 Mhz.

I have had differing levels of success with adding unmatched memory and sometimes it's fine and sometimes the computer gets unhappy about it. It was cheap so I figured I would go with a full set so I wouldn't have to worry about any problems. I had one computer that just really hated some memory I added even though it should have been compatible.

The situation is really quite hit or miss. I think you need to write more, too. I just installed new memory in my computer and I think I will actually be able to do things online again! Oh, I have had so many ideas lately, but I didn't want to fight the slow fight to type them out. Get to work, John, and write us some posts!

I'm sorry to hear about all the computer issues you are having. There is nothing worse than a computer that is slow, won't load or crashes all the time. I hope buying the extra memory will help.

I know exactly what you are going through as my laptop takes forever to do anything. It must be real annoying not having your memory. I hope you get it back real soon I couldn't resist. Your last line left you wide open for a sarcastic remark on my part.

I can understand how frustrating it is to wait for ages for a computer to 'do' something. Hope the new memory makes working much better for you.
