I was chatting to a friend and she told me this is the latest trend.
Talk to a therapist online. She pays $25 a week to text her therapist all the time.
She's recently been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and couldn't really hack going to a normal session. So she signed up to this site and have been receiving help via text.
Apparently it's working out great!!
Would you give this a shot?

That's cool! But, not for me however I'm glad it's working for your friend! myLot is like my therapy so I just use myLot, and plus it's free and you earn a little while at it!

Absolutely no way. I don't need therapy but if I did I'd want to sit and face the doc.

@Drosophila Here the therapy is very uncommon unless you really have a mental problems.

ya I think this is only available for USA citizens, the therapists have certifications to practice under the state's law. We don't have this in Ireland. I don't have experience of going to therapy, but I think they "work" because they are meant to facilitate your self-recovery without telling you what to do. Which is what friends and family won't be able to refrain from, they will always tell you what to do first. xD

Apparently it is! She's paying the therapist $25 a week. From what I understand she has access to the therapist all the time, except sleeping hours ofc

I hope that the therapist is not called Eliza.
chat: Enough of Eliza? The Chatbot list has more chatterbots! Is she a Rogerian psychotherapist, a semi intelligent chat bot, or just a toy? Eliza, one of the original chat bots, is now ready to talk to you. She is programmed to behave as a Rogerian psych

@Drosophila You know what any therapist would tell you : if you do not pay, the therapy does not work.

Lol!!! I'd hope not too! $25 a week is a bit too much to talk to a bot LOL! Btw that was a mad experience with Elisa there

@Bluedoll lol ya! Well! That sometimes is exactly what one need. Not sure with serious problem like clinical depression or bipolar though, especially that caused by hormone imbalance and needs medication.

Therapy is meant to help one to "get on with it". But ya I know what you mean, I occasionally complain a bit too much and immediately it would increase the worry meter of my F&F..

Being bi-polar disorder isn't easy my ex-partner is bi-polar and she would find it hard to do many things, one going out and say meeting her therapist.
I'm not sure, I guess if it worked then yes, but I would save myself the cash and go.

The whole concept I think hinges on quality of service rendered. The workload for a therapist would need to be realistic. And too for the person looking for help. It takes time to get to know someone so there might need to be a commitment on their part.

That is certainly very true! Relationship with your therapist takes longer time to build online I think than offline.

@Drosophila It makes me question how sincere they are on the site and if they might not actually get to know their victims, sorry I meant patients?
On the other hand they could be extreme devoted. I would think, "I can't handle my corn flakes box anymore as it doesn't open properly" would get handled differently than say, "what's the best way to end this"?

@boiboing That's good, ya I'm fortunate enough in that I'm able to keep everything under the lid. Though, am sure, if I go and open my mouth to a professional, they'd think I need help too. Lol..

I don't have any idea of taking any such facility. I am not sure how it will be useful. I believe treatment should be done by consulting the doctor in person. I agree, now everything is doing by online which can save time and money, also can do at home.

I would prefer face to face interaction with a therapist, but it is nice that online therapy exists. Some people find it easier or more convenient than 'ordinary' therapy. My friend who is mentally ill talks to her therapist online, but they meet offline as well.

Yep therapists are not meant to tell you what to do. They are meant to help you to come to your own conclusions. Something friends won't be able to refrain from.

But this seems to be only available to USA citizens.
