Why is Breastfeeding Disgusting?

I watched a "social experiment" video today that really bothered me. They used two women in the experiment. One dressed provocatively with a very revealing top on and the other with her breast partially exposed, breastfeeding her baby. They had the provocative woman sit on a bench at a mall for an hour to see if anyone would say anything to her. Nobody said a word. Then they put the breastfeeding mother on the bench and I was appalled at the number of times someone walked up to her and told her that what she was doing was disgusting. Disgusting?!?! Really??? She was feeding her child! The word "disgusting" was used over and over and I honestly couldn't understand it. How is a newborn getting food from his mother considered disgusting? During the second half of the video they had both women sit side by side. When a man approached the breastfeeding woman and told her she should leave, the man in charge of the video asked him what the difference was between the two women. The man said that the provocative woman's breasts were sexy but the other woman was disgusting. I honestly don't understand what's wrong with people today. How on earth has everyone gotten so mixed up that we're offended by something so natural? If I ever had a baby, I would feed them if needed and it doesn't matter where I am. Personally, I would use a cover or something because I don't want to expose myself but I certainly wouldn't find my actions disgusting. I wouldn't leave my child to cry and be hungry while I scrambled around for a private place to feed them. It's just silly that women can expose their breasts in sexual ways out in public but it's only a problem when it's done to feed their child. People need to get their priorities in order...

It doesn't bother me at all if a woman nurses her baby in public, just as long as it is done discreetly. I used to nurse my children, too. The other woman may have received a disgusted look from me.

I have also watched that video. It appears a little staged to me actually. People do look down on it, I won't deny that. I just don't believe the video is actually real.

@kellyr634 This video was a social experiment. The two women were part of the video and the entire thing was staged so they could document the reaction from other people. :-)

@PamJam Well I guess my comment was misunderstood. I totally realize that this is a staged social experiment. I am not that ignorant to realize that. In fact they tell you that upfront. However if you watch the video it appears that the reactions of the people are staged. I am not the first to say that, in fact lots of people have commented on the video and said the same thing.

It is not disgusting but it should be done discreetly in public (because there are so many people who are offended by it).

I agree. I would cover up so I wasn't exposing myself to the public eye, but I would feed my child. It amazes me too what people think of the natural order of humanity.
