Mum's Gnomes find a Home

A few days ago we had a friend stay with us for two nights. She had a young friend of a friend with her. The younger person is from Nottingham and on a visit to Australia. We took her to Gnomesville. Many of my friends here will be a little familiar with Gnomesville as I write about it occasionally. This visit was a bit bittersweet as we took my mother's gnomes and left them there about the thousands of others. I've added a photo of my mother's gnomes. She passed away in 2014 aged 104. I washed them all before we took them out. When it rains some of the gnomes get splashed with dirt but as these are on grass I'm hoping they'll stay clean for a little while.

@JudyEv I'm sorry. My mother didn't know any of us at the end. She had Alzheimer's pretty bad.

@just4him That would be really tough. My mum didn't get Alzheimer's and always knew us.

She did indeed. But it wasn't that much fun towards the end.

I remember you posting about Gnomesville on Bubblews, which provoked a poem from me about gnomes.

Yes, I've written about them quite a bit as there are always new, clever puns appearing.

They were in Mum's garden. There are thousands of gnomes at Gnomesville and they stretch for probably nearly a kilometre along the roadside.

@SIMPLYD Sorry. I didn't explain myself very well. Only the few in the photo are my mothers'. The rest have been brought there by many different people.

I think even Snow White would have been 'snowed under' with all these gnomes.

@arthurchappell There is amazing variety in the gnomes. While some are the same, many seem quite unique.

I hadn't heard about them being good luck. There is a lot of luck at Gnomesville if that's the case. :)

@Jot2me I think there is an opening at Gnomesville for someone selling gnomes. I'd think about it myself but you'd need a licence and there'd be all sorts of hoops to jump through so I don't think I'll bother.

@JudyEv Imake fairy houses and love anything in the garden. My stepmother use to have a ceramic shop and still has a bunch of her gnomes she made.

Gnomes don't do a lot for me but we don't have too many tourist attractions around here so it's somewhere to take people.

Oh they are precious - and how sad to have to part with them - anyway its like putting them in a friendly place . . . and I am sure that your mom is smiling down on you. 104 - What a fantastic age to reach.

Are the Gnomes on your property or do you have to travel to see them. We love Gnomes. Have you heard the story about Gnomes going on vacation. We do this often when we find someone that has a Gnome in their garden. Love to you my friend, enjoyed the picture. Beautiful.

Yes but also groups come from all over the state - scout groups, a Shirley club, motor-cycle groups, school excursions, old folks' homes. There are also quite a few with names from overseas. I took a photo of one which has Gaelic writing but I don't know what it says.
