Big Day Tomorrow

Tomorrow is set to be a big day. My son, Noah, has an appointment for a spinal MRI and then a consultation for a big surgery later in the day. We are going through the motions to get him into surgery for a "Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy" Long story short : they open your spine and cut some of the nerves... Maybe i should back up a bit... My son has Cerebral Palsy that affects the use of his muscles in his legs and arms. This procedure is to limit that effect and hopefully give him a better quality of life. My wife and I have come to terms with the idea, but we're still very nervous about the whole thing. Tomorrow will be the day that we set the date once and for all. The procedure comes with a 2 week hospital stay and months of intense therapy and rehabilitation. This will take a huge toll on our finances, family, and most of all Noah. We're not going into this lightly. I don't really know where i was going with this post, but i just had to vent somewhere, to someone. Wish us luck, this is when things get interesting....

Huge hugs for you and your family, Ryan. I know it sounds intimidating, but from what I've just read it sounds like SDR is a commonly performed procedure for patients with CP and complications seem to be a pretty rare occurrence. I can't imagine how difficult the decision to have Noah undergo this surgery has been for you and your wife, especially with your twins being so young on top of it all. I wish I lived close enough to you that I could babysit, or even just bring you a homecooked meal or three when you needed it. I'll be keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers. I'm not sure if you've considered starting something like a GoFundMe account, but if you happen to, please message me with the link. I've always enjoyed reading about the things you and Noah do when you post them.

Ryan, you and Katie do such a good job with your kids. I know this is a huge decision. I have worked with many kids with CP and seen the hearts of parents who care for them. You should always feel free to vent here. The people are the best as far as I am concerned.I will pray for you guys tomorrow. Or rather, today.

Things are alright right now. We weren't able to schedule the surgery quite yet, but we're going forward with it. Noah was supposed to start a 5 day a week 4 hours a day therapy program this week but he got sick and the doctors just confirmed pneumonia, so...yeah...But we're trucking along. Thanks for the well wishes!

@bobo2500 Oh, no! I hope he recovers from the pneumonia quickly. He's got more than enough on his plate as it is!
