In one of my trips to the southern part of my province in the latter part of December last year, i came across this " stomach churning" site. The vehicle i was riding on was directly behind them so i took the opportunity to take some photos. I enjoyed taking their photos and they in turn enjoyed it too. They enjoyed the attention and the long ride not minding the threat to their lives. Would you dare take this ride? This photo was taken with my sony digital camera.

They look happy enough, but it doesn't look safe at all. I saw people riding like this when I was in Cuba many years ago.

Yes thats how we are Filipinos ... we still can afford to smile inspite of how difficult the situation we might be in at the moment. These passengers disregard safety just as long as they arrive on time to their desired destination.

I think when you are from a barrio where cars are scarce , this will do . Though , it would be safe if you are not hanging on the sides like that .

The risk factor is multiplied to a thousand fold for those who are hanging on the side of this truck but they completely ignore it for as long as they arrive to their destination on schedule.

@SIMPLYD Sad truth indeed in our country and in some other countries also whos citizens live in mountainous regions that cant be reached by more and safer forms of trandportations.

We aren't allowed to ride like that where I live. It looks very scary/dangerous but I am sure it is very common where you live right?

Yes it is in some part of my province where traffic is not very heavy. But in most urbanized cities overloading is not allowed and there are stiff penalties for breaking this ordinace.

I wont dare also. But if i were a farmer and this would be the only mode of transportaion to take my produce to the market then i would be forced to take it.

The lack of an alternative or a better choice force them to take this risky and life threatening ride. Its either this or see your produce rot in their crates and go to waste.

I'm sure they all arrived safely. They only have one destination and that would be the biggest wet market in our city " Carbon Market".

@mammots I guess this is how they often travel so they would be well used to it.

I'm afraid I was never that brave! Even when I was young I don't think I could do this but they seem to enjoy it. Blessings.

When i was young i also never got the chance to ride this kind of transportation. I think it would be fun watching the scenery if there wont be heavy traffic but what if the driver suddenly has to step on the brakes?

Looks enjoyable but it's no fun if any of those people gets thrown out in case the truck gets hit. but for now,i guess they enjoy the moment of being taken picture of. as long as the driver's attention is on the road, nothing bad will happen to them.

That was my greatest fear while i was watching them from my vehicle. There were so many " what ifs" going on in my mind while our vehicle was following them from behind

The most fun part of this "trip" would be the cool fresh air and the mountain view plus the risk factor.

Something like that would not be permitted in the USA. There are seat belt laws for everyone.
