Job you love for a paycut?

I had an interesting conversation with my volunteer supervisor a few days ago that I wanted to share with you all – and get your opinion. He was asking me if I ever wanted to work in a non-profit organization like the one I volunteer for with him. I told him I would absolutely love to, but I don’t know if I would be able to handle the pay cut. What I do now is cool, but it’s not super inspiring and it’s not hands-on helping people like the case managers at various non-profits do. Looking at some of these non-profit jobs, that require bachelor degrees, involve at least a $10,000 a year pay cut.
I spoke to a friend about this to someone else, and they said “keep your day job – and just continue to volunteer there”.
My volunteer supervisor said you can make a living – you can survive – and you’ll be doing what you love.
So, I’m pretty torn. Do you do what you love and barely survive financially or do you continue to do what is “eh, so-so” and make more money?
What do you think? Have you ever been in this situation? Which category does YOUR job fall into? And, do you have a dollar amount that you would take a cut for – to do what you love?

I don't think any of my jobs where doing anything that I really loved until I started babysitting 5 years back. And that was only when I started babysitting the last two kids that I have had recently. I think any job is going to have things you love and hate. But then I could be wrong.

I would still keep the job regardless of everything.

It's not true when someone says that you have to do the job that you love and the money will follow. The money will only be a problem if you go for it. You cannot give if you don't have enough in the first place.

Sounds like your supervisor just wants someone to take the position and don't care about you and your needs. I know I volunteered with a animal shelter and they just expected too much. I was turning down job hours, my own spare time, and my own money.

The people are very lucky who got a job in their lovely fields. So they can do their jobs happily and without any tired.
