If so, how is it?
The rectangular box just down under, though, prompts me to choose and pick a few words from the post, but my inert nature creeps up, and seldom, I make a post with a tag.
I guess, as the option is provided by the site, there must be some reasons.
When clicked, a tag helps to get those posts, which are of similar tagging.
Apart from that, does a tag have any other role to perform?
P.S. : Going to make a check with this post.

It doesn't have a direct link with earning but makes your posts more visible to people with similar interests so they'd visit your post giving them the opportunity to interact with them which would have an impact on your earnings.

Tags help you and others find posts on similar topics. When you add tags, what you see in the 'Most Interesting' list shows discussions based on the tags you have used most often and a box also appears to the right of your discussion headed "You Might Also Like" and showing discussions tagged with the tags you have used in this one.
The more exposure your discussion gets because of these things, the more likely you are to get responses and comments and the more likely you are to earn. It is therefore important to choose your tags carefully, with relevance and responsibly.

I add tags but I'm not sure if it does any thing.

when I tag, I want to make sure those tags are almost present in my discussions. maybe when a word I tagged is also a word by other lotters, these discussions may appear at the right end of the page.

I often search by tags and Mylot is very good for them - some sites they barely work
