I've met a few hand tools

I do not have the strength or stamina now. I do have the memory, though. Hubby and I were in Northern Idaho, packing a two person cross cut saw. What a long whangy thing! Between us we used that long and sharp saw to cut down tough tamarack trees. Then we sawed the tree into lengths that fit into our wood stove. Way too often the saw's blade would stick into the saw cut and one of us would have to back out and try again. We learned the art of working as a team in those days.
And same with needing flour for bread or other baked goodies. We used a hand grinder. I still use a hand meat grinder and a food mill.
Last year I toured an old farm stead that now was a museum. It kept for posterity a life no longer lived. I loved snooping in the machine shop. Those pioneers had grit!

Wow you are the original Pioneer Woman. While I have used a meet grinder I have never ground my own flour or cut down a tree to burn, we did however burn coal many years ago to save money when the kids were little.

@bellestarr That was a long time ago. Gads we were poor then and proud. Two years without running water or electricity. And a toddler to keep alive and well. We still have the hand grinder for flour though now we use an electric one.

I think in society we have gotten easy and convenient way. I have been slowly reverting back to how society use to be, and not depending on companies, or stores as much.
