The Controversial Diet

United States

The Grapefruit diet started in the 1930's. It says it will make you lose 10 pounds in 12 days. There several versions of the diet, including curb carbs and bulk up on high fats and just eating the fruit at or before meal time and still eat anything you want. There is not lot of prep work and no exercise is required. Does it really help you to lose weight or is it a scam? What your thoughts? If you want more info on the diet or anything else please visit my blog at christainblog.wordpress.com

I tried this one years ago and it didn't do anything it promised. Now I couldn't do it because I can't have too much acid.

@coolrachel I don't think it works because we cannot follow it like they expect.

Any diet will work if all you eat is what they say but no one can just live on grapefruits. I remember that one and I tried it but I ate other things too so I did not stay on it and I am sure I did not lose any weight or I would have remembered it.

That's also true. You do have stay with it and do what it says. But most people don't.

@coolrachel It's not healthy to follow one of those diets that claim you will loose a lot of weight. After years of doing all kinds of diets I have found the best one is to eat what the family is eating but only one helping of each food and not a big helping. It is best to taste everything you want that is being served as if you deprive yourself of something you really want, you will only go back later on and probably eat a lot of bad things to get that craving out of your system.

Any diet that restricts what you eat will work for a very short time and I'm pretty sure that grapefruit stimulates the metabolism. BUT no diet works if you can't live with it long term.

@ramapo17 Very true. If you can't live with it long term, why try it.
