I dreamed about zombies last night, so I am sharing the pain with you. As always rules are simple for my poem challenges, use the 5 words (any tense you need). Try to write your poem in under an hour or one sitting (this is about being spontaneous and have fun, not fight your inner editor). Add yours here, or a link to yours, or something. We all like to share in each other's awesomeness. The 5 words are: Zombie(s), taco(s), rot(ting/ed), clink(ing), corn Below is my version of this challenge. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When the world ended, it wasn’t bombs and war. It was zombies slow shuffle, right out of sci-fi lore. We went to sleep one normal night, awoke to the end of times. End of laws we had to follow, the end of tracking crimes. The world has changed, in more ways than one might think. It’s all about survival, finding food and safe water for one to drink. One must also have safe shelter, a place to lay their head, And dream about tacos and corn, without feeding a zombie instead. You’d think the rotting ones were the only danger, in this new world of ours. One has to hide and team up, protect our gardens with towers With walls, with fences, with weapons and strength We work together and protect each other to the last length. To live here is simple, you agree to the rules, Both profit and punishment, we aren’t no fools. You want to leave fine, but if here you stay, You work and you share, every single day. Outside our walls there is danger and fear, Give us some time here, we might just recreate beer. Bottles a clinking, sharing the night, Better than being out there, running in fright. Yes our world ended, but we started anew. We had no choice, it was the best we could do.

Her too tight chain collar clinked against the bowl standing near, I watched her tear into a taco (plundered from the dumpster, that taco gift) the smell of rot and canine unease fueling my need to rip the zombie who'd left her deep as corn chewed and digested in the gut.

@sallypup that's what made me think dog, and anyone who'd do what the bad guy in your poem is, is a real zombie!

@Jessicalynnt Yes it is a pup poem. I guess it could also be a cat but chain collars are usually dogs.

This is so fun! How did I not find this sooner? I did a discussion not long ago on "random poetic". I think this qualifies, lol. It's what I'm to do right now: Corn husks, taco truck. County fair in despair. The proof is the meat- clink, clack, sizzle goes the kitchen in the summer heat. Their breath rots with every bite. The new zombie race was born that night.

@Jessicalynnt Aw, thanks! I guess I'm fairly used to short and long form of content creation.

Zombies aren’t my thing, of that you can be sure, I don’t like tacos or rotting corn anymore. But I’ll end this poem in a wink, Now that I’ve used the word clink. Sorry, that's all my pea pickin' brain can come up with today.

Here is my entry to your poetry challenge This one was a little strange so I made my a little bit off the wall too. I love scary poetry and decided to write mine on the dark side. Just to give it a different twist and trun. Hope you like it. Good words but not so easy to fit them all in. I did manage and got them all done.
This week @Jessicalynnt has challenged us to write a poem with 5 words she has chosen. Now this week it's a little strange the words she wants us to use....
