Good News for Heart Health

Scientists at the University of Glasgow led by Dr.Bill Mullen have developed a type of testing called Proteomics which can diagnose whether a person is suffering from heart disease even before symptoms arise. This has been done by analysing the proteins present in urine. Different diseases produce a different fingerprint of changes in the cells of the body with their associated protein patterns. This technique is a big improvement on cholesterol testing which can only indicate risk factors and does not actually show whether the patient has disease or not. It also made possible an experiment to see whether olive oil is as good for the heart as is often claimed. 70 volunteers took 2 dessert spoons (20ml) of uncooked olive oil for six weeks. Half took extra virgin oil and half used regular . The results showed that both types of oil reduced the proteins in the urine of all the volunteers, taking them to a safe level. The good news is that any kind of olive oil of any sort reduced the markers of heart disease to a completely healthy score in just 6 weeks. The best advice is to use raw olive oil instead of fats like butter etc, as it is quite high in calories.
The doctors use a cutting-edge technique to discover whether olive oil is good for us.

This is disputed by some saying butter is better for you than olive oil. 100gms of Olive oil contains 884 calories compared to butter which has 717 calories. I think everything in moderation is the key.

I did not notice your comment and I just wrote the same thing, it's not a matter of calories but a different quality of fast. If they talked about calories, I doubt a lot pf the quality of this show.

I think it is not the calorific content that does the trick. The same show said that butter is quite good for cooking with too @garymarsh

That's excellent news that they will be able to tell before any symptoms show.

My level of confusion increases with the outcome of each research result. It keeps on changing, but one thing I got realized by now that as far as oil is concerned, the lesser it is the better it would be for heart health.

The show did say that you should not eat too much fat and that the raw olive oil replace some other fat you usually eat

@moondebi, yes the different studies and results are confusing me as well so to be safe i would rather just minimize oil consumption as much as i could.

@paigea lol, there are people whose body think of nothing but things that satisfy their belly even if it will destroy their health but wise people think better of course.

Olive oil has more calories than butter, but it's safer for the hearth. I only use olive oil to cook.

We try to follow a hearty healthy diet and a Mediterranean diet, which are the same. I say, everything in moderation.

I'm not consistent. I eat fairly healthy much of the time, but sometimes I want a big fatty steak, or a giant bowl of ice cream. Today I ate a tiny breakfast and was Jonesing for a Big Mac. So my kid client and I went and scarfed at McDonalds. Then we went bowling.

Interesting news. I'm not a cook, so I don't know if olive oil can substitute for butter in most cooking. But seems like it's worth a try.

For the heart benefits you must use the oil unheated. I tried some in a sandwich instead of butter and it was fine!

And if you have a history of heart disease in the family, 2 dessertspoons of uncooked olive oils in place of other fats should help

That is good news, I heard good news yesterday about Parkinson's disease. I look forward to medical miracles the older I get. I think moderation is important in all as pics of life.

I may have to take some time to read up on this show that you watch to see for myself how valid the findings really are. We have a show in the US that many watch, but I question the validity of it now after watching several episodes.

The important thing is to take the olive oil uncooked as heating destroys some of the goodness. Hope it helps your FIL.
