The Blizzard of 2016

The blizzard that is creating havoc for people on the East Coast is apparently record-breaking on several levels:
It is the most snow in Washington, DC in 90 years.
It is one of the five heaviest snowfalls in New York history.
It is the first time EVER that both New York and Washington DC got more than 18 inches of snow from the same storm.
Two of our daughters, the mothers of three of our grandkids, live in the blizzard areas. They have been posting photos of their kids playing in the snow all day.
If you, or someone you love, has been caught in this blizzard, I hope they are safe and enjoying it ... not in danger or overwhelmed by it.

@paigea - You better tell your husband to slow down and take it easy. No point in having a heart attack!

@DeborahDiane I tell him. I try to do some of it because he just can't go slow. This year we have yet to have a real shoveling session which is turning into worries about a dry spring - and fires.

@just4him - The two youngest ones don't go to school yet. The older one had school called off today and tomorrow, so he is happy as a clam!

@DeborahDiane I always loved being out in the snow as a kid, so I'm sure they're having a blast in this unusual storm. Did they have school called off because of it, or is it back to school as usual tomorrow?

I really enjoyed the video of the panda enjoying the snow. I guess pandas and children are enjoying the snow.

@buenavida I had to smile watching this video. It was on the BBC.
Tian Tian, a giant panda who lives at the National Zoo in Washington, has been taking advantage of the freezing weather by fooling about in the snow.

@1hopefulman and @buenavida - I don't have a link to the video, but I'm sure anyone could find it on YouTube. Just look for Washington, DC panda in the snow.

Hundreds or is it thousands of people who live in the area hit by this storm ignored the warnings and were stuck on roads and highways. Each one of them that had to be dug out and/or rescued should be handed a bill. Why should those who did the right thing pick up the cost of helping people who did not?
I am not suggesting charging people who through no fault of their own had difficulties, like those who stayed home, but whose homes became flooded or otherwise damaged, but good grief, I knew the roads were unsafe, and I live in California. So why didn't they?
They did, but they went out anyway.

@ElizabethWallace - It was definitely dangerous. It makes things extra hard for the people who try to rescue them, too.

I have to say that I agree that there were many people out on the road who never should have been there. It does seem irresponsible.

We've missed the snow. We'll see how long before we get some serious snow.

@Morleyhunt - Here is Southern California, we are still hoping that we will get some rain from this El Nino. It is supposed to be in the 70s the rest of the week, which would be nice if we didn't need rain so badly!

@LadyDuck - Yes, it was a very serious blizzard. I have heard the same region could get a little more snow later this week. I'm sure that will not be very welcome.

I think the snow is following our daughter who now lives in Delaware but used to live in Boston. There was a blizzard when she lived in Boston, and now there is one right after they moved to Delaware. Maybe she caused this weather!

I'm glad that your family survived OK with the snow in NYC and CT. Our daughters in Hastings-on-Hudson and Delaware both did fine. Our grandkids had a ball in the snow!

It has been a long time since I lived somewhere that had so much snow! I grew up in Missouri, but now I live in Southern California where we have to drive somewhere to see the snow.

I've watched CNN News. It was an unbelievable snow storm. Personally, I believe that Global Warming is part of the cause. I think that more of these events will happen in the coming years.

I have heard that global warming actually increases the amount of snow. It has something to do with the way the water evaporates and then comes down as snow in certain locations, but I don't understand the exact mechanism. At any rate, the weather has really been strange.

Its nice to hear that the little ones are able to play out in the snow. When we get a blizzard it is quite often filled with very cold temperatures and windy conditions which make for white outs and you don't let little ones out in that weather. It sounds like they got a lot of snow from that system.
