Is 2016 the year another 2008 happens?

I have been reading alot online and doing some research and think that we are heading into another worldwide economic collapse event . China's stocks down, Oil falling to historic levels, people losing jobs almost everyday, company's laying off workers, dow jones falling and worst start to a year since the great depression as far as the global economy goes. This sort of thing keeps me up at night. I can only hope it all holds together a few more years so it give people more time to warn others and prepare themselfs for that is sure to be a nightmarish global current reset event. Any thoughts?

The economic outlook for the last 8 years has been nothing but depressing. I see no time in the next 8 years where we are likely to see real improvement, indeed the Harper government's idea that we had a recovery (albeit one where there were little in the way of new jobs) was always fundamentally flawed as is shown by the current crisis in the Canadian dollar. Drastic change is required, but most of the world leaders are clueless about what to do.

Agree. The news has been reporting a slow recovery but the fact of the matter is that the middle class in American is no longer the majority. People are still having a hard time.

It would only keep me up at night if I had large amounts of money invested in certain areas. Thankfully, I am confident (perhaps too confident) that my rather small pension funds are well managed and spread and will be able to meet their commitments. I also think that there has been more warning and especially more media coverage about this impending 'collapse' than in previous collapses and that there is therefore a strong political (and possibly also economic) motivation for it. Are the facts that America is due to elect a new president or that Britain is talking about leaving the EU completely coincidental? (There are doubtless other things too, which may have no meaning for the hoi polloi) I think not! I believe that certain people who are well able to control world markets (but usually stay very much in the background) have pulled some strings and have orchestrated this. I am NOT a person to subscribe to the "Illuminati conspiracy theory" but I do believe that there are certain very rich and influential people who can, if they want to, act together to make things happen which are temporarily in their mutual interest.

I have read the same thing and I do think it will happen as I have not seen much improvement in the state of affairs.

Do you think the collapse is due massive population growth. But a decrease in natural resources.?

I hang out with people who know what is going on with the world. I mean they really know and participate in this, not just watch TV or read newspapers. They say that really tough times may come in about year and a half, in late 2017- early 2018.

It seems like they are saying on the news that we are slipping into a recession. I haven't seen evidence of this, but then again, I work in the public sector and am paid via citizen's taxes....Not sure how this will progress. Are stocks dropping? Do you have any other information?
