Have you ever thought about the abuse and violence in nursery rhymes? I have and think that it's about time to make some changes lol! Here is one example: Sing a song of sixpence A pocketful of rye Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie When the pie was open The birds began to sing Wasn't that a dainty dish to sit before the king The king was in his counting house Counting out his money The queen was in the parlor Eating bread and honey the maid was in the garden Hanging out clothes Along came a blackbird And picked off her nose. First of all, can you imagine anyone cruel enough to bake any kind of bird in a pie? Terrible I say - what ARE we teaching our children! Second there is the matter of the maid having her nose picked off - and she was the only one doing any useful work! I've take the liberty of informing the world of the trash that Mother Goose is writing and am starting a petition to have the word 'Mother' removed from her name! Here is the way that I have revised the above rhyme. Sing a song of sixpence A pocket full of rye Four and twenty blackbirds Baked the king a pie When the pie was open They all began to sing as they brought their dainty And sat it before the king The king was in his counting house Counting out his money The queen was in the parlor Eating bread and honey The maid was in the garden Hanging out clothes Along came a blackbird And said I suppose It's okay for the king To count out his money It's okay for the queen To eat bread and honey But hanging out clothes when it's not even sunny Really my dear! What do you think- is it an improvement? Can you do better? Why not try?

I'm no good at poetry but there's another verse to "sing a song of sixpence". They sent for the king's doctor, who sewed it on again; He sewed it on so neatly, the seam was never seen

I can't do any better. Nursery rhymes and fairy tales did have a lot of violence.

Thanks paigea, and that's very true but it was a different time and people didn't think as we do today. Of course, although I wrote this 'Tongue in Cheek' I did recognize the violence and feel that it did more harm, even back then, than most people realized. Nevertheless, this was meant to be a fun post. Blessings.
