Car Trouble Far from Home

On our way home from the wedding today, we had car troubles. We thought it was the old battery so bought a new one. Now partway home we've had to stop at a motel because our head lights got dim. Once we pulled into the parking space, everything electric died. We're sure it's the alternator.
Tomorrow will be a long day.

Alternator problems are serious. Replace the thing or risk even more issues. Cars need electricity to operate, without a running alternator, no electricity except that in the battery.

@ElizabethWallace Yes, it did save money to have him take the part off and put it back on again.

@Sheilamarie78 i think drivers should be mechanics too or even just some knowledge of it so in times like this, they know what to do.

My husband is a pretty good mechanic. He took the alternator off the car and then we brought it to an electrical repair place to have it rebuilt. Hubs then put it back on again. It was a bit complicated because he had to take off several parts to reach the alternator and not being home, he didn't have all the tools he needed. Also it was pouring rain most of the time. He's braver than I am!

@mom210 I'm just kidding you. We actually are adopting two little kittens starting today, so I've had cats on my mind, too.

@Sheilamarie78 oops. need to take a minute to proof read next time.
maybe our cat was on my mind at the time, we are trying to teach the little guy to stay off the table and it is not easy! Teh dog was way easier to teach that.

Oh no! That is very worrying. Thank goodness you made it to the motel. @Sheilamarie78 , I hope you can get your car fixed soon.

I hate when that happens. We had car trouble many years ago when we were traveling from Pa to Ohio. We had to have the vehicle towed and I don't remember whether we stayed somewhere while it was getting fixed or what. I'm hoping we didn't have either of our children with us at the time, but I really don't remember.
I hope everything got taken care of quickly and inexpensively and that you are back home again.

That is my worst nightmare. Just the thought of car trouble while traveling creeps me out. Hope the repair is speedy, done well and at a reasonable price.
