Traveling Europe on a tight budget

Once I spoke to a young adult about traveling to Europe on a tight budget. She had traveled to Europe for a period of two months, and spent less than $2,000. Since the cost of an air ticket was high, I could not imagine how she could have saved up just $2,000 and stayed there for 2 months. She explained that she did not sleep in a motel. She slept in the train station, and took shower in the public bathroom. That was really an extreme example of traveling to Europe on a tight budget. Since she is an artist, she had the opportunity to sell her artwork to supplement her savings. That was why she dared to go so far away for 2 months with just $2,000 in her saving account.

That's amazing. And I think it is difficult not to sleep in a hotel because the good rest and bath are important for travellers. I don't need a fancy room, it is OK even if there is no TV in the hotel room. But I need a bathroom inside the hotel room. I also wonder how she eats everyday. Will it be instant noodles and burgers?

@scheng1 It is fine to have a travel like that when you are very young. I must say it is really not easy for a girl to travel like that because it is very inconvenient to have a bath in the public bathroom. And how about dry the hair? Wash the clothes? Girls seem to have more requirements than boys in this aspect.

I do not think to ask about her meals. I think it is more likely that she eats bread and buns, or fast food. If she brought instant noodle, she needed to have access to hot water or cooking facility.

She did very well for travelling for 2 mos and sounds like she was very thrifty and frugal. It is good to be a wise planner and traveler. She is very resourceful.

She can sleep in a railway station. I definitely cannot do that. I want a safe place to sleep so that I can sleep soundly. A hot water shower after a tiring day is good too.

It's always good to plan your trips ahead and sounds like she managed well. I could not imagine sleeping in a train station though and worry about my stuff being stolen but glad she made it 2 months more props to her. I however would not be able to do that.

I also cannot sleep in train station. I must have the security of sleeping in a safe place, else I will be too worried to fall asleep.
