Are there any good online sites for doing genealogy research? / myLot

Before I leave this world, I would like to research my family tree and roots. I have gone through a number of the free online sites like Familysearch.org but always am directed to Ancestry.com when I really want to dig back in time. Ancestry gives you a few weeks free, but then you have to pay to use it. Am I stuck having to go through Ancestry or are there any other good free sites that I can use for my ancestor research?

rootsweb is freee and I ha ve go t most of m y famly tree done b ujsi tha site as you meet others who are researching your same family is so mc fu n and helps so much.

There have been many instances when I researched names for the books I write and have stumbled on a few different sites. They have been very forthcoming as to family. Unfortunately for me and my purpose it was never what I was looking for. So you might want to input your last name and see what happens. If it still comes back to Ancestry.com then at least I tried.
