My own true twilight zone story. The annoying, vanishing dog!

As some of you know, I have been house / dog sitting for my neighbours friend for the week. Tomorrow is my last day and thank goodness! It has been so awesome being away from home, having a place to myself with a cute dog. Her name is Tinky. The owner ( her name is Carol ) requested that Tinky stay outside for she is in heat and is bleeding a bit. But if I do let her in, to put sheets over the lounges and to mop up the tiles. Tinky has opened the side door a few times with her nose to come in to which I have had to mop up the mess. I was able to tolerate that. But now I am anxious for Carol to come back tomorrow so I can go back home. This damn Tinky is driving me nuts. This isn't her fault but here is why I am stressed as hell. I hadn't slept on Wednesday night ( surprise surprise ) so I was having a little nap Thursday day but got woken up from a phone call from Carol telling me that a neighbour contacted her saying she had Tinky because Tinky was roaming around on the street! I was very confused and apologetic. I explained I didn't understand because she was outside before I laid down. Carol wasn't angry but she was saying Tinky has never got out before. So I started to feel really bad because I don't want Carol to think I'm not responsible enough and I really don't want her worrying about it all while she's away on holiday. So I go grab Tinky, come back and have a look around to find any holes and I found one under the side fence. Carol rang again and I explained I found a hole and Carol said that Tinky couldn't have gone under there. Long story short, after we hung up, again, she wasn't mad but I got the feeling that she thinks I left a door open and that's how she got out which is not the case. I'm a very careful person and I know I had everything shut and locked. My neighbour came around after that and I showed her the hole and she even said it was big enough for Tinky to get out. Anyway, so last night ( still Thursday ) I had to go home for just an hour or 2 to do some things. I blocked the hole before I left with some cardboard. Did what I had to do, dad took me back to the house, I go inside to look for Tinky and she wasn't out the back. I quickly ran out to the front and dad was like "Look." So I looked down and there she was. Had just come off from the street. What....the....hell?! So I take her back inside, and showed dad the hole. He agreed with me that Tinky could fit through that hole. So it was nice to have another person agree with me. Not because I wanted to be right but because it helps clarify to Carol that I wasn't making it up about Tinky getting out on her own. So dad and I put heavy rocks on both sides of the fence AND blocked off the path that leads to the fence so it was quite impossible now for her to get out. Anyway this morning ( Friday ). I've still not slept because I've been worried about her getting out even though it was blocked off, I was still scared. I had been out the back with her for a few hours on the laptop and watching the sunrise and then I got up to go to the kitchen to get her breakfast and my breakfast. When I went back outside, she was no where to be found. So I ran around inside the house trying to find her thinking she came in for I left the door open. Nope. Nowhere to be found inside, so I ran back outside to check the fence and it looked exactly the same. Nothing had been moved. Ran back inside, went back outside, went out the front, ran up the street. I was nearly in tears because I was panicking. I come back inside to put shoes on so I could run further to another street to look but just as I opened the front door....there she was....Looking in. I was very happy yet very mad because I don't understand how she keeps getting out and I don't like all the stress! I LOVE and adore animals so I don't mind playing with her, feeding her, cleaning up after her but god sakes man! I am the only one in the house at the moment. This isn't normal for Tinky. She is used to 4 children and 2 adults being around so like a friend suggested to me, she's probably trying to get out and find them or maybe cause she's in heat she's trying to go find some male dog to get jiggy with I don't know. But I seriously can not wait until this isn't my problem anymore!

Are you sure her name is Tinky and not Houdini?. I don't blame you for being glad that they are coming home.

@Daljinder @jaboUK lol too funny. My neighbour came around today and we put Tinky outside and ignored her on purpose. Then we stood in one of the owners daughters bedroom to look outside the window and we finally saw how she was getting out! She has been walking along this wall that goes over the fence and out. I was so happy to have seen how she was doing it because I felt like I was going insane. And I'm even more happy that my neighbour saw it so I have a witness so she could then call Carol. Just been worried the whole time that Carol thought I was being careless. But HA nope! Found the issue! Suck on that Tinky!

Dogs (or cats) in heat will always try to get out to roam around. That's just the way they are and no matter how careful you are, they always find a way to get out.

@Dalane You got that right! I've never experienced anything like this before so I didn't know how sneaky an animal could be lol I do have a female cat but she's fixed. Thank goodness.

Animals do have their way. I hope she does not end up with puppies.

I hope not either. It seems like she was getting out to go across the street to see the male dog. So I hope she doesn't have puppies for her owners sake. I'm not sure they would be wanting that.

I would be glad to be going home also and let her owner take charge of her again since she doesn't want to stay inside.

Animals always seem to find a way out if it is possible. I was raised on a dairy farm and every once in a while a cow or two or even the whole herd would get out. Then we would have to go hunting to figure out how they got out.

@VivaLaDani13 Yes, I've been around for a few years. Usually the cows got out through a bad fence. We did have some very stubborn cows that would walk right through the barbwire fence even if it meant getting cut up. Or walk right through an electric fence even if it meant getting shocked. Those cows usually ended up being taken to the stockyards.

@RichardMeister wow I swear every time you comment on my posts, you always have something interesting to say about something you've experienced in your life. So did you ever figure out how they got out?
