Texting someone in the same room
Oh I do find it odd, the other week I was over at my kids and my middle one decided to text me, nothing wrong with that I hear you say. It would be ok if he was out and about but not in the same room. Not sure why he could just say instead of texting, it doesn’t make sense to me.
It not the first time it happened either. Does you kid’s or the person whom you are living text you even if you are in the same room or in the next room.

Yeah I guess so, I'd rather go and talk or say especially if they in the same room.

@kevin1877uk Me and Beckey have text in the same room sometimes. When we didn't want my roommate to hear what we were talking about!! That's just being sneaky.

@T_gray Ok I understand that part which is ok when you don't want someone else to know what you are talking about or over hearing you.

I live with my grandparents and my uncle. My grandmother will call me if she is at the other side of the house. Of course that's a bit different as some days she has trouble getting around.
You reminded me of a time (10 years ago or so) when me and a few friends were sitting beside each other texting. We were giggling and having a good time. If I'm not mistaken we had all just recently received new phones and were testing them out.
It can be rude to text back and forth with someone if others are in the room though. It is sort of pointless as well.

I agree if you are in the same room. Ok having a new phone and seeing how it work etc is ok and maybe having a little fun too which is all good.

@kevin1877uk Communication outside of typing is important though. I have a niece who will come in to our house and not say one word to us for three hours because she's playing a game. I try to get her more active and she's been playing card games with us more.
I don't know what / how she acts at home or their rules for her tablet use.

Fortunately I live alone and don't have a cell phone @kevin1877uk . But it drives me nuts to see an entire family at a restaurant texting each other instead of 'talking' face to face. People are becoming robots.

We don't have cells so we don't test. I can see it happening thtought if you are in the habit of texting.

He wanted to say something that he did not want others in the same room to be aware of... without coming and whispering to you..which would look like bad manners. Even otherwise, it creates a kind of secret bonding which makes the kid feel secure I suppose. Come on...indulge him...:) That is love and trust flowing your way..:)

"What for dinner" was the text message I got from him, why he couldn't just say I don't really know myself.

Sometimes things are easier saying via text than in person sometimes.

@kevin1877uk There was a reason - an instruction to someone who was about to speak.

I know several adults who have the same habit. My two next door neighbours do this constantly.
I have known them to have long conversations via text, whereas I would use text messaging only for a short message, otherwise I would simply telephone or speak to someone.
