I wish cursive was a requirement when I was in School.

Now that we are in the digital ages, it seems like cursive is obsolete. During my childhood years, I learned the basic cursive (how to write a-z in both lowercase/uppercase) but we never had to write essays in cursive and teachers preferred legible print handwriting instead or typed up papers. Since I don't use cursive much, my cursive is very ugly - but on my free time I like to practice.
Do you think cursive should be required? Now, it seems like handwriting whether print or cursive isn't even required anymore since most assignments are typed and printed.

@infatuatedbby Take least yours is legible, mine isn't at times, I sometimes go what did I write lol. I blame it being left handed.

@kevin1877uk Oh you'll get smudging sometimes too! But left handed people are much more talented.

I haven't written much either, but when I do, I try to practice my cursive more. My print handwriting is okay, just very big. I like to write legible.

You're not going to love it at the start, especially when you're left-handed.

Heh! I can't imagine writing left hand, the ink getting smeared would be no fun!

@Tierkreisze Yes, it would. They do have some left hand notebooks but they should make them more universal in stores same with left hand scissors and what not!

@infatuatedbby You're right. Or perhaps raising your hand so it doesn't smear the ink? That would be a very uncomfortable position, though.

I think it should be taught. I learned it. What if someone needs to jot something down? Do they just put it in their iPad now or what? Is n't there still a use for it?

@infatuatedbby ...Seems weird not to have it taught any more. I have heard that they are thinking of taking it out of the schools.

Some of my co-workers kids, a school requirement is to own an iPad for learning at home. I was like what? I would love cursive to be a required handwriting to learn!

Not just that but a lot of things are "Electronically Signed". We had to write a lot of cursive when we were learning it but you are right otherwise we wrote in print. We were always told "You'll need this in Middle School" or "You'll need this in High School." We never did.

Yes! Now a days everything is electronically signed. Just type your name in and that's considered your signature. -__- I was told, I needed at least 2 years of a language course to graduate high school. I ended up taking 3, for what? Nothing! Not everyone even took a language course to graduate.
Lies!
But yeah, everything was just print or typed up assignments.

@infatuatedbby Yes I thought I wasn't going to graduate because I didn't take one any of the years. I still graduated.

@ScribbledAdNauseum School totally lied. I wasted my Middle School years taking a Spanish course. I didn't even do well, ended up failing the Spanish course because I was trying to juggle other electives. So I took 3 years in High School to make up for it.....
And, look! I didn't' even need to take those courses. I could have had a fun middle school and high school taking cool electives like photography or something else! UGH!

I am horrible at math in my head. Math is my worst subject. There's calculators for math or our phone.

In one of my classes it was required to write our notes in cursive because it was faster to write in cursive and we turned in our notes for a grade. I am very good at writing in cursive and usually always do. I think it should still be taught in school

I am horrible at cursive. I can't write straight and all my letters aren't uniform. I need to practice, but I can see how writing notes in cursive could be much quicker.
