Why you need Inulin, Chicory's treasure chest and the natural Prebiotic... it is essential for maintaining gut health and boosting fibre intake. Dietary experts recommend a daily intake of 25 grams of fibre. Inulin is an oligosaccharide and a non-caloric carbohydrate that is found in a variety of other carbohydrates called fructans. So which foods contain this necessary element in moderate amounts? Banana Asparagus Garlic and Onion Leeks Sugar beet dandelion root, elecampagne root Wheat The absolute star for Inulin in sufficient quantity for a healthy gut, has to be CHICORY...the source of most 'natural' Inulin supplements. BUT to ingest the required amount, you might need to consume mountains of these, for instance.... half-cup of asparagus only contains 1.7 grams. Two slices of bread equals 6 grams of fibre. half-cup of cooked onion equals 1.5 grams. My solution is drinking Prewetts Organic Roasted Chicory, in place of Coffee or tea, which contains 4.75g per 100gms. This has all the bitterness of Coffee, but a milder flavour, and very palatable. Unlike Probiotics, which often don't survive the stomach, Prebiotics not only survive, but pass straight into the lower intestines, completely intact, then act as a fertilizer to the healthy bacteria living in your gut while stifling the production of the bad. So if you suffer digestive problems or just want to stay healthy, Chicory Root is your best friend!

@1hopefulman But are you eating enough to supply the required 25mg to your system as they only supply under 2mg per fruit?

My digestive system is happy. I attribute it to getting lots of hugs, eating lots of garlic, and exercising whenever I can.

@TheHorse Surprised you get lots of hugs if you eat enough Garlic to supply 25mg of fibre to your system...you have to REALLY love someone to brave that

@bookbar The littlies I work with on Fridays give me enough hugs to last a week. I gather hugs lead to an oxytocin release, and oxytocin is a cortisol supressant, so more hugs lead to better health.

I used to drink a bit of chicory coffee when I lived in England. It came in a bottle as a liquid. I cant recall the name of it, do you know it my friend? I often drink Kefir if nothing else it has the probiotics...it seems to help me a lot.

@TiarasOceanView I think you may be talking about 'Camp' coffee, which i've known from childhood....amazingly it's still available... Kefir's fine if you can take dairy, which most is based on but many can't so a veggie based Prebiotic is a better bet.

Chicory is popular in France and I used to drink chicory time by time. My husband likes to drink it, I cannot stand the taste. I like bananas, leeks garlic and onions.
