What is your biggest fear?

The majority of us have something we are afraid of. Some things may be more serious than others. But fears do play a role in our lives. My biggest fear is being in a tornado.
Ever since moving to Tennessee 15 years ago the word tornado has put fear in me. Most times when they throw that word out nothing ever came of it. That is until the Spring of 2011 when we lived in Bradley County, Tennessee and we had a series of tornadoes starting in the morning and ending that night.
There were many deaths in our county as well as other areas surround us. Homes destroyed, homes mangled into twisted piles of nothingness. Lives lost, lives changed forever. The landscape still shows bare trees missing branches and leaves. We saw the damage the next day and when I close my eyes I still see it.
We were fine, our home and land showed no evidence of what happend just two miles away. But the fear is in me, I've seen what a tornado can do and it scares me.
What is your biggest fear?

@Aslyum - I think that since I've not that far from 70 that I would have been in the beginning stages and since I seem to be functioning quite well mentally, I try not to think of that fear.

@Marilynda1225 I don't think of that. Don't know if I should.

Thank God the tornadoes are not regular. That day the system started out in mid-west and for the entire week before we were warned it wold get bad...and there were tornadoes from mid-west to TN and beyond. It was a weather pattern that will probably never happen again. Dementia is scary for sure.

I think my biggest fear would be losing my mind to Alzheimers. It happens a lot, and I sure don't want it happening to me. I don't want to have to depend on anyone, as I have been on my own for 8 years, and I would hate to get to the point, where I wouldn't be able to do what I do now, becasue of it. My mind is still sharp, and praise God, I hope it stays that way.

@AbbyGreenhill You know, I think you are right. I never thought about that, as it sure does make sense. I intend to stay on here and do as much as I can, and hopefully, I will make payout every month.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes I have and it scares me. The redeeming element in all of this is being under the care of one of the world's leading eye surgeons.

Two more natural disasters. We are also living on a fault line that they now say is larger than they originally thought.

That is certainly something to be afraid of. My biggest fear is heights. I have a hard time just standing on a stool. Now I should put curbs in that as I'm just healed from a broken leg falling off a curb. So all said, I guess it would be the fear of falling.

@AbbyGreenhill I remember the first time I had bifocals. I had the lined ones, in fact I need those kind, anyway I was always trying to step over the line only to find there was nothing to step over, it was my glasses.

I have been through Hurricane Katrina in 2005 when my relatives left the city of Metairie to Franklinton to be with my other relatives. The lack of electric power and running water for a period of three days was enough to put some respect into the powers of Mother Nature when she gets angry.

That was scary on TV so I can't even imagine being there and living thru it. My family had a motel many years ago on the gulf coast that was wiped out in a prior hurricane.

@Deepizzaguy I was also in a few hurricanes and lost power for almost a week. I was never afraid, we just had to have a plan when we knew the hurricane was coming and it was going to be bad. We had lots of blankets, bottled water and enough to eat and read. It was like going camping.
I always loved camping.

That does sound scary. I've never seen a tornado in real life and I hope I never see one.
My biggest fear is being afraid and failing the people I love because of my fear. I don't think I'll be able to live with myself if something bad happens to people I love because I wasn't brave enough.

@AbbyGreenhill i don't know if this necessarily applies to clowns but i also don't like things that look human but aren't human (statues, ventriloquist dummies, dolls, masks) they don't terrify me the way clowns do but i have always found that things that look human but aren't to be extremely eerie and unsettling

@AbbyGreenhill nope just something that I've always been afraid of, even when I was little. I was the only two year hysterically crying and hiding at birthday parties when the clown came out

That's really scary. Whenever I heard about these disasters, I feel it's so difficult for the people who stay nearby. We are blessed that we do not have such natural disasters in our country.
I think the biggest fear I have right now is losing my loved ones, especially my husband and my children. I don't think much about it too but just seize the time we are being together.

Until recently the weather never bothered me. But with all the catastrophes coming from weather related conditions lately I'm feeling a bit unsettled when I see a storm coming. We've had tornado warnings here and it's pretty scary to think that our area could be hit with a tornado. This was something I never imagined being leery of a few years ago.

I do think they are over the edge with all their dire predictions which they do to Cover Their Butts in many cases. I lived in Jersey most of my life and we never had a tornado warning, now they have them all the time.

@AbbyGreenhill I am with you. We got hurricanes in New Jersey but we always had enough time to prepare for them or leave the area. My kids still live in New Jersey and they have never had a tornado warning.

I don't know that I could pick one fear as being the biggest, but tornadoes scare me too. Last year we were unfortunate enough to be on the highway and interstate near tornadoes several times. We were fortunate that the tornadoes never came close, we didn't even see them, though we got the rain and hail that came with them.

@AbbyGreenhill It was scary. Both times we didn't know there might be tornadoes in the area until we were there, so there wasn't much we could do to avoid it. Thankfully they weren't close enough to see, just lots of rain and hail.
