my part-time job is going kaput

I had this very part-time job where I came in during their “busy seasons” to be a helping hand in data entry and other officey type stuff, and I have worked there for the past 7-8 years doing this – just on the side. Sometimes I would get in ten hours per week, other times I wouldn’t work for a month at a time. Each year I made a few thousand, usually anywhere from $2,000-$4,000 per year in extra spending money…..I finally got my W2 back from this last year, reporting I had made a whopping $475 dollars there in 2015. Dang! This is not make-or-break it, because I work 50 hours per week at a full time job which is decent pay....But still.
I hadn’t realized so much time had gone by since I had last worked there, but I guess so. I contacted the business owner via e-mail after seeing this, wondering what was up with business levels. Apparently they have taken a huge dive – one of their biggest clients has undergone new management and hasn’t had any big projects for them like they used to. She said she is re-vamping the website and trying to get some new clients, but with no luck.
This is very sad to me. I don’t even much care about the extra couple thousands per year, but it’s sad to see a company struggling like this.
Has this ever happened to a company you worked for? Did they pull themselves out of it or go under?
